I recently completed a SR build, and have finally put enough miles on it to get it ready for real boost (I've been running it at about 8.5psi). Today I decided to bump it to about 12psi or so for now, but I can't get it to go much higher. Even with the "set" value at 80, it wouldn't go over about 9.5psi or so.

I've consulted the manual for the Greddy EBC, the Apexi AVC-R manual, (I read they both use the same solenoid) as well as Tial's wastegate installation diagram. I also tried searching these forums, but I could not find anything about a problem like this... mostly just overboosting problems. It should be noted that I used this EBC when I was running the engine stock with the T25 and stock actuator at 12-14psi. I'm assuming it is something I did wrong with the vacuum routing and not a solenoid problem.

I have run vacuum from the compressor housing (Precision SC50-31E) to the side of the wastegate and to the "NC" port on the solenoid. The bottom of the wastegate is run to the "COM" port on the solenoid. I have tried the "NO" port open and plugged with pretty much the same results.

What did I do wrong? Is there a way to test the solenoid to make sure it isn't the problem?

Thanks

Which fitting are you running off of the Tial top or side? EBC are supposed to be run from the top but my friend runs his from the side like they recommend manual boost controllers.

Well don't I feel like the village idiot... I kept searching and reading and reinspecting vacuum diagrams and whatnot... A guy I work with (who has been working on cars [not necessarily performance] for a very long time) was checking it out and told me I should try the NO port instead of the NC port. I kept ***** footing around and tried to tell him that was how you hose up the stock actuator, but not external wastegate... After he examined the diagrams himself and finally believed me, he decided to check power to the solenoid. I unplugged the harness to the solenoid and showed him where it was. He said, "why am I always pointing out your stupid ****?" as he held up the harness for me to see that the green wire had come out of the plug...

After battling with the plug trying to get the clip out to re-crimp the wire in there, I finally submitted, cut off the plug(s) and hardwired it together...

It is amazing how much better a solenoid works when it actually has power . The thing spools about 1000rpms quicker (and I was starting to worry), and it was confirmed that the wastegate I purchased actually had an 11psi spring in it. I guess if you hook everything up to an unpowered solenoid it will drop the boost a bit haha (was running about 8.5psi or something). At first I had the "set" setting at about 15 before I realized that was putting it up to 15+psi... I didn't get to mess with it much because of the rain, but I plan on running it around 12psi or so for now until I get used to how it is actually supposed to feel!
