It is almost sure it won't work properly with any other solenoid. You could use one of the same type (not just an on-off solenoid), but it might need some kind of calibration.
I have thought of the solenoid next to the igniter too, because i have this disabled. You could use it as an on-off switch i guess, but you don't need the profec to do it, just plug the vacuum lines and connect it with a switch inside the car. But you wouldnt be able to get mid boost levels, just std and maximum (which might not be a good thing ) whether it is on or off . Unless you figure out a way to minimize the amount of air coming out of the solenoid, to succeed a mid level boost that you would be happy to run as a high boost level, controlled via a switch.
