I decided to do my 3000 mile oil change today. As this being a routine procedure for me i do it pretty mindlessly. So i jack the car up get under and pull the plug. But stupidly i take out the wrong one... The greddy pan has 2 plugs one right next to the other. The one on the left is the normal drain plug... i took off the one on the right. I some how backed this thing all the way out. The nut on the inside is still on the bolt. There are 2 small studs on the nut that fit into a washer above and below the hole on the inside of the oil pan. I attempted to insert this two studs back into the washers but with no luck. So my question is.. what is the best way putting this back in? Must i take the entire oil pan off? and has anyone else made this same mistake and can maybe guide me with what they have done.

I did spend about the last 2-3 hours searching for an answer. If i somehow missed a post like this i appologize.

Thanks,Nick

If it's spinning freely, you're gonna have to pull the pan off to get it tightened properly from the sounds of it.

yeah thats got some funky wing type nut on the other side. You're gonna need to get in there and find it.
