Has anyone else have this problem with this paticular BOV? Its the newer model...the Greddy Type RS. The chrome and Blue one, duel spring. blah blah blah

All i get is compressor surge..and that sound really makes me cringe..i dont like it at all. I've tried a few things to try to make it open up...loosening it all the way....removing one of the springs.. I'm really thinking about getting a diff BOV...this is the only one i've had so i'm not sure if a new one will fix the problem. I have heard a few things about the BOV is meant for high HP.

Also I'm thinking...maybe cuz I'm running so low psi..but in my opinon...if theres enough pressure to have compressor surge...the BOV should let that excess pressure out. I dont like it hitting the blade and slowing it down.

But I'm running only 4psi right now btw. Went to the dyno and this stock KA at 4psi put out 208 rwhp and 234 ft.lbs of torque...but thats a different story. Anyways..i want to fix my BOV problem..maybe you guys can help...I'm interesested in getting a diff BOV...but it would suck if I put a new one on...and had the same problem

Any sugesstions?? Thanks

Oh yea...also I have an 92 KA24DE-t

Are you using the secondary assist port also? There should be a port under the diaphragm that plumbs into the intercooler cold pipe. This will assist with low boost opening.

I haven't heard about this Secondary assist port....I just have the BOV bolted to the flange that i have mounted on the hot side a few inches from the FMIC....recirculted into the intake.

Ok, on the very top of the BOV there should be a vacuum fitting. This fitting should be connected to a good vacuum source (somewhere attached to the intake manifold, after the throttlebody). This signal will pull vacuum against the diaphragm inside the big round part of the BOV, helping to pull the valve open when you close the throttle.

On the bottom side of the big round part where the diaphragm lives, there should be another threaded hole for a vacuum fitting. This fitting should be attached to the intercooler pipe between the intercooler and throttlebody. This is an assist port (secondary). It will help with low boost valve operation.

Hope that made sense.

Um...my BOV does not have two vacuum ports....it has the adjustment on top... This is the model..

I have very good vacuum running directly from my intake manifold to the BOV, it should suck it right open....it's not appearing to be a common problem...so i'll have to look at it more i guess. Any other ideas..go ahead and shoot.

That is why I am so glad I bought a HKS Type 1 BOV. It has a second assist port that helps when not in full boost.

I think I was mistaking the Greddy RS for the S. I have the R and I know it has the secondary port (because I use it) and the S has the secondary port. Sorry about that.

Describe what is happening. I'm wondering if you're actually hearing compressor surge...

Lol.....

Compressor surge is the pigeon sounding flutter that I get when transfering to a vacuum state following boost. It's the sound of the excess pressure contacting the compressor wheel...similar effect as blowing into a fan....it flutters.

I wrote the above linked article...i'll give you the short version...

Since you are recirculating, you'll need to:

-- Order the Greddy-RS 34mm adaptor (the blue mouthpiece that screws in - the 19mm adaptor is too small), about $20, and use much larger tubing/plumbing to recirc the air back to your intake piping (also with a larger nipple)-- Remove the smaller spring from inside the BOV-- Loosen the allen-key adjustment bolt all the way out, and then maybe half a turn or so tighter

With mine set up like this, it will never surge and actually "blows off" at less than 1 PSI....

Video is coming as soon as I can upload it...sounds interesting recirc'd actually!

Good luck.
