At 155k I am thinking about getting some diagnostics run on the transmission and probably a rebuild. The problem I have had for some time is that it is whining at high RPMs in 2nd and shifting is not smooth into 3rd. I think I have a good transmission guy but I was wondering if I would be better off just buying a re-man unit.

If you want a really strong and long lasting reliable rebuilt one, then go with LevelTen as we have two members with LevelTen and both are really satisfied with the work and one has had his transmission for several years now. The web address is http://www.levelten.com (i think) and I just sent them a transmission core to be rebuilt and put in my car. The cost of the rebuild is about $3,000 and they are located in NJ. Shipping is about $200. I will have my old 1995 core available 4 sale that was actually rebuilt 15K miles ago @ 122,000 miles within the next two weeks. My current transmission is fine as it is or you can send it to LevelTen for a full rebuild again and then have them send it to you. Then you don't have any downtime on your car. I am having a 1992 transmission put into my 1995 Q45t as the #1 & #2 gears are lower for better acceleration along with LevelTen's system says that their transmission's transfer power 12% more efficiently from the flywheel to the rearwheels with quicker yet still smooth shifts. I am having a bunch of work done to my car...about $10,000 in all (with a 4.08 rearend, JWT ECU/TCU, new transmission, wheels, etc) to try to get it down the 1/4 mile tack in 14.0 or less but yet keep it somewhat sophisticated. We shall see how this project goes as I have never done anything like this before. If you are interested in my transmission for your car as a direct replacement or as a core, let me know. Shipping is about $250, I think. I paid $2,800 for the rebuild and can show you the receipt of the rebuild and you are more than welcome to call the shop and ask them about the rebuild as Infiniti recommended them becuase they don't rebuild, just replace. I really don't want another transmission laying around as the condo association here on Miami Beach would have a cow with me leaving it in the parking garage and I am not putting it into my condo unit. I see them go for around $400 used on ebay so anything around this price would be great and you would have the benefit of knowing that it was just rebuilt and can talk with the the shop that rebuilt it. I will be getting my new transmission within the next two weeks as I just gave LevelTen all the info on where to pick up the core to be rebuilt.

I might be interested... Take in mind that a factory rebuild from Joe is about 2000...

The concept of a swap sounds okay but does anyone know about compatability between 95 and 96? If I got one from Joe shipping would be high I'm sure plus installation. I'll probably get it checked out here and then start narrowing down the options some more next week.

94-96 should be the same...

96 TCU should be fine... The only conflict would be OBDII, but the TCU should cover it... I dont think any differences in the sensors, and obviously everything else would be fine...

Ill check my parts CD tomorrow....
