I got 27.5 mpg from Arizona all the way up to Salt Lake City, some 600 mile trip.

I just kept it pegged around 80 mph most the way and it was smooth sailing through the ups and downs of the hills.

I think it was worth driving slower for the gas mileage increase. Normally I drive around 90 and get about 23 mpg.

I was getting 29-30 mpg hwy with my 04 sedan on cruse control at 72mph + AC whole way.... about 180mile trip. Did it multiple times.

So that's reasonable. I am sure coupes could get just as high mpg if you really tried.

on my 2005 g35x i get 22mpg average city/highway mix. my trip counter is always around 220 miles at a half a tank. i think thats decent for all wheel drive. way better than my 96 jeep which got 18mpg on the highway!

I think the our diluted gas coupled with a taller (?) final gear make my coupe eat gas

The last two tanks have averaged 16 with only slightly spirited driving

Just got back from a 600 mile trip.

Down with a little city driving = 23.43 Average speed was about 70.

Up, all freeway and no city = 24.25 Average speed was about 76.

We now have California's crappy 10% ethanol gas also. I also noticed a 10% drop in city driving when I had to start pumping it.

The road trip I go on about once a month up north is around 460 miles and I can make it with a full tank. On the way back home though going south I can make it and then some--must be going downhill. One the way up I've averaged somewhere between 25-26 MPG, on the way back down the average is about 27-28. That's cruising at 80 and 65 (not all of it is freeway), A/C if I need it. Another thing I've noticed is that I get considerably worse mileage driving at night, not something I really expected with the cooler temperatures, but maybe because of the moisture?

Toolbooth AKA John,... those are impressive figures my friend, I took a 1000km trip in my 4cyl altima, averaging 27.85 mpg... So yeah, that's exceptional... You have the 6mt though right?

I'm yet to break 22mpg in the G. I dunno why, but my girlfriend / buddies all say I drive too hard.

I think with the electric fan, I may hit 25mpg hwy.

Beano:

I feel your pain. I am in the same boat myself. That 10% ethanol gas is a bunch of BS---I can't beleive we are being gouged with 10% ethanol gas blend.

Though I noticed that if your drive with the VDC ON, the G seems to be able to conserve gas quite well, even with spirited driving or flogging. I was amazed at this. But then, would you want to sacrifice performance for better MPG? The VDC OFF is best for spirited driving but it comes at the cost of a higher MPG penalty.

Nate:

That's right! Taller gears will drink gas. But you will be faster. How does the taler gear fell, during acceleration? Do you get an extra kick and acceleration from one traffic light to another? I have been thinking about the taller gears for a while now.

I meant taller than the sedans. I still have stock RFD gears.

Nope, I have the 5AT...

Which is why i was so happy. We dont have that 6th gear that the coupes have

i have noticed the VDC thing too... but usually, with me, VDC off means im accellerating harder

but the engine feels more ready to rev when the vdc is OFF... so i would think the MPG would be lower in general with the VDC off.

with more sporty driving im at abot 20mpg, as my trip counter at half tank a tank will be ~200 miles...

when the gas light comes on im usually a little over 300 miles on the trip counter. (93 octane everytime)

in ga some gas stations have the 10% mix and others dont... would it matter as much with 93 octane gas(the sign will say "up to 10% ethenol")my point is would the 93 octane gas have less ethenol?

10% is 10% I can't find a single LI gas station w/o the 10%, although new BP stations now have "envigorate" which hopefully brings the fuel quality to near techron levels.

From my understanding, the Ethanol actually has an octane (can't remembe RON or MON) of 110. It also has lower potential burn energy which results in less power and lower fuel economy.

Kinda like watering down your whiskey with 10% Merlot. The Merlot may still be alcohol but at a much lower percentage and you won't get drunk as fast

Damn you John, that's really amazing, do you have an electric fan? what's your secret aside from the 80mph sweet spot.

Oh, I'm so pissed, I think the reality of it is that I drive too hard, I'm slowly starting to realize this, but I'm planning a long trip, just to be sure what I can get on 100% hwy driving... Again John, that's really impressive.

The key is maintaining around 80-85, that seems to be the sweet spot for long trips. But pick it and maintain it, don't be jumping around between 80-85, so if that means using cruise, use it. I have to use cruise or else I find myself creeping towards 90, but up hills I'll speed up a little bit to hit my maintained speed and I'll keep the gas down a tad more on the downhills so that the computer isn't trying to maintain speed with brake checks or however it does it. On long trips, another key is A/C use. I still love the on ramps and flooring it out of tollbooths and at the end of construction areas, gotta keep it exciting somehow, right?

The toll booths, bridges, merging lanes, redlights, Highways all spell disaster to me and my MPG.

I haven't ever driven this slow on a long trip before. I'm normally a very aggresive driver but my wife was behind me in her 05 4runner so I kept it slower so that she would get better gas mileage. She ended up around 23, while i got the best mileage in my life! haha

and no...I haven't done the Electric fan conversion yet.

I was curious, has anyone heard of the recall for fuel hoses that go bad due to ozone wear on the hose?

It can cause DTC's to arrise for evap issues? I hear it has something to do with the fuel leaking either by evaporation or while filling I'm not sure if it's been addressed or not.

Whats the policy regarding recalls as a 2nd owner?
