I saw someone else mention this and I'm not sure if it's just us two but has anyone else with a 6 speed noticed an accumlation of grease or oil on their shift boot? Specificially mine is located to the left of the shifter in the little fold of the leather. Not sure if it's something to be concerned with or just lubricant from cables from the reverse saftey feature that you pull up to engage reverse.

Thoughts?

Not even a smudge. I imagine someone got a glob on it and didn't clean it properly.

Now that you mention it, I did notice it just this weekend.

I had it in the exact same place and cleaned it off twice. When I removed the shifter cover to fix my 12V outlet, I was surprised that there was nothing on the underside. So far, there has been no return of the mystery spot of goop.

Yep, same here. I thought it was something the dealer did but it sounds like it's fairly common.

Anyone going to bring it in for the dealer to look at? I'm thinking I might seeing as it would be covered.

I noticed the same thing. I thought it was residue of a cleaner that the dealer used or something. After wiping it off, I haven't noticed it but I'll look again.

In 2 weeks I've managed to put 1500 miles on My Versa S 6sp manual, with the power package. No grease,no clutch problems or power window issues.Guess I'm lucky. Love this car.

c5neb,

Did you rewire your outlet to stay hot all the time? If so, please share what you did.

Thanks

For those of you who noticed the greasy boot, let me ask you this. When you park your Versa and you put on the e-brake, what gear do you keep your car in? I put mine in reverse which I'm thinking may have something to do with that grease as maybe there is a self-oiler or something for when you lift on the reverse switch on the shifter.

What do you guys leave your car in? 1st gear? Neutral???

I leave mine in first with the e-brake on.

I didn't rewire anything Ben. The L-shaped connector was only attached to the hot lead clip. The ground clip was exposed and disconnected. Once I connected it properly I was working as the factory designed it.

I guess if you wanted it on all the time, you could run a fused lead from the battery, disconnect the factory "L" connector, and replace the hot lead with your new lead. You could run another ground and eliminate the L-shaped connector entirely. Since you haven't sliced anything, you can return it to "factory" easily. Tada!
