I have a 98 Pathfinder with grease in the rear passenger drum. I opened it up to look at the pads and noticed considerable amount of grease in there.

My guess is that i have a leaky axle seal...? How difficult is this to replace? The dealer wants arm and leg. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

It's a PITA and you're going to need special tools.

Unless you're really into doing your own work, I suggest paying someone (other than stealership) to do it.

It may just be the wheel cylinder leaking brake fluid.Check the fluid level. Brake fluid mixed with shoe dust and whatever else gets in there will thicken up, and it may end up looking like it was grease.I'd check that first before pulling an axle seal.
