Well my CA's been in my car for a few months now, and it's finally been running somewhat decent for about a month. The only problem I'm having now is that in the higher RPMs (like while getting onto highways, and taking off quickly in general) it will blow grayish/black smoke. It only does it in under those conditoins. No smoke at all on start up, idle, or during normal cruising RPMs. Is this a sign of running rich?

Heres some more info and mods done to the car that may help:

Mods:ca18det swapsr T25 turboFMICHKS BOV (vented to atmosphere)K&N filter3" downpipe, test pipe, and cat-backoil catch can

-I never upgraded the fuel system, I still have the oem fuel pump and filter that was in the car.-I am running the car at stock boost (7 psi)-Vacuum gauge reads around 20 hg while idling-Sometimes the car will idle rough, between 700-900rpm while warm-just changed the spark plugs, old plugs showed signs of rich conditions-just changed the o2 sensor-the ECU gives me code 55

I can't think of anything else that might help out... I'll add stuff if I come up with anything new. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Compression test. Follow the directions in the FSM. Sounds like you're burning oil either via blow-by or a failing turbine seal.

If it was burnt oil, wouldn't it be blue smoke? The last turbo I had on the motor was blown and it smoked blue.

I will do a compression test this weekend. Is there anything else that it could be that I can look into?

Sounds like running rich to me, but it can be hard to diagnose a smoke of that color. Intake, exhaust, and atmospheric BOV can have that effect (the smoke that is).

How much smoke are we talking about here? Just a little, or is it full-out James Bond style smoke screen?

Mine used to do the Bond, James Bond thing and it was just the o2 sensor getting incorrect voltage. Re-wired it and I was peachy until I started upgrading more stuff and my car went into a constant state of hell-in-a-hand-basket.

I may try taking the BOV off and seeing how that effects things. I also have a crappy little narrow band a/f gauge that I never hooked up (it was free). Would it be worth it to wire that up, or is it in fact just a light show?

I'd say the amount of smoke is just a little bit, if not maybe a little bit more... but not anywhere close to James Bond style.

What is the voltage supposed to be for the o2 sensor? If you don't know off the top of you head I'll just look it up in FSM myself.

12V, but refer to the manual to be safe.

I wasn't referring to the BOV itself being a problem, but rather it being vented to the atmosphere. It shouldn't really be causing that though.

VTA BOV is a small issue.

you might check for nock retarding your timing as well(use your FSM).
