Hey everyone. Anyone ever do the GrassRoot challenge. You got to buy a car and race it for only 2005 dollars. I want to do this and bought myfor 240 for it. I spent a grand on the car. and now I got a grand to spend. What you suggest for this.

I am thinking, wires, (have to change them anyway) tires of course. (have to be a certian brand) and I was talking to my roomate. We think we figured out how to make a carbon fiber strut bar for it. Front and rear. So I will be experimenting with that.

Just want your feedback

Its judged in a few different types of racing right? Can't you sell stuff from the car that you wont use(backseats, ac, dash), and use that money also? If so Id gut everything, weld in a cage, full tuneup, coilovers or stiff springs and shox, sway bars, and good tires. If you have money left nitrous maybe. If possible used stuff would let the money go farther. I'd say junkyard turbo setup, but thatd leave you with a stock suspension and itd only be effective in drag racing.

yeah I like the idea, but I dont think theres enough teeth in the $2005 rule. People can get stuff for free, or just aquire cars etc etc. Thats a big advantage for people who already own the car, or who have access to a bunch of "free" parts etc.

It's like Jessie James and Monster Garage-- they base the show around having to build this project for some amount of money, and then halfway though the show they get all the critical/expensive parts as "freebies," which is total BS!

LOL anyways sorry about all that-- the 2005 challenge does look pretty cool: you're bound to see some pretty creative ideas and fabrications-- definetly an interesting event.

but they said "aquire" a car then mod it with only $2005. So you have to buy the car and mod it with only $2005.

Another idea is a older gen gsx or talon. Those are cheap. Already turbo and only needs suspention tires brakes which should eat up your funds :P

I forgot about the ol' talon and gsx :P

but he already said he bought the 240 for it already, id say suspension, tires, and with whats left a little power, but people are going to have like mustangs and comaros for the drag, so try and take them in the autocross

i've heard of it from the last years. Unfortunately someone ends w/a miata or a 240z for a buck and drops a v8, shredding the competition to pieces.

ROFL. Maybe I should enter. I got my 95 240 for free from my cousin.
