The wife's grandpa bought this classic recently. Today was the first time I was able to see it in person. It's a project for sure but a cool car that is mostly complete. He was an Olds mechanic in 1958 so he worked on these when they were new. Too cool!

1958 Olds Super 88, got to love the styling!

Wow, looks like everything is there almost. Was it a collector's lazy habits that let it go to waste, now coming into your wife's grandpa's hands?

Man that's classy.

I think so, a body shop outside of Geneva owned it for a long time. It sat outside along with some other neglected classics. I think the owner wanted to fix all these cars up but was so busy he never found the time. It's a classy car. Just sitting in it was a treat.

It really doesnt look so bad, its definitely a positive having all the parts there so at least you have something to start with.. Looks like a great project, and way too cool that he worked on those cars when they were new!

Sitting in his living room was an original 58 Super 88 FSM. Flipping through that was really neat!

Makes you wanna get dressed up 50's style, go to the sock hop, and cruise. But I agree, this is what you think about when you think, classic cars.

My first restoration was a '49 Olds Rocket 88... the smells and sounds of a car from that vintage are irreplaceable.

NOT BAD AT ALL! Really love the way "O L D S M O B I L E" is boldly spelled across the entire rear decklid in chrome. What a difference from this weaksauce:

I miss this brand most out of all the recently deceased.

+1. Can;t replace the smell. My brother had bought '49 Olds (survivor) several years ago on a whim, and used it for a few years. I drove it a few times. Straight 6, 3 on the tree, 4 door, push button starter (which is now coming back in style). Big roomy tank. Big ol' bench seat made it a good date vehicle. :bigthumb:

Nice find.

Yep - Ours was an 8, with the Hydramatic. Sexy car, even today.

No digital pics, I'd have to scan them(after I dug them out of photo albums...)

Same car, but ours was tan and had a windshield visor.
