Lost and Damned was really, really horrible. GTA4 in general has lost its way. Rockstar seems to have forgotten what makes GTA awesome (self-satire and being over-the-top). I have little faith this one will be any good, but I certainly hope it's better than the utter trash that was Lost and Damned.

Thats so true they tried to make GTA a serious game, and in doing so stripped all of what made GTA well GTA.

Thank god for Saints Row 2, while its clear they were ripping of earlier GTA titles they did so with a certain flair that still made the game incredibly funny. They took everything that made GTA3-VC-SA fun and put them all into one game.Still one of my favorite games to play even today.

EXACTLY. Saints Row 2 is what GTA4 should have been. I just wish I could get a combination of GTA4's vehicle handling and great visuals with Saints Row 2's gameplay.

Best thing about SR2? Drop-in, drop-out coop ANY TIME. Fully integrated into the singeplayer game. Cheats are available during multiplayer. GTA4 locks out cheats in multiplayer (scowl). Saints Row 2 says "yeah, we know driving a super-mass car at 3 million miles an hour into oncoming traffic is more fun when your friend is hanging out the window with a rocket launcher...please have at it." GTA4 says "Look at me I'm moody" and then proceeds to trip over itself because the lighting in the room is so poor.

I tried playing GTA 4 again on Friday and to be honest I wasn't as happy to play it as I was when I first got it. I did have the TLAD DLC abd after playing halfway through the story mode and then forgetting about it I deleted from my HDD, it was just too big of a file and it was beyond buggy, hell half the time it wouldn't work. The new DLC and TLAD are going to be coming out on an expansion disk, which works better for me, I save it to the HDD play it and when I get bored I can just delete it b/c I have it on a disk.

I haven't played SR2 but if it's anything like Saints Row (which I never finished) I may just have myself another game to play when I'm truly bored of my other games.

GTA's multiplayer is a ton of fun because of the realistic (or at least not super-console-fake like SR2) handling and the insane damage modeling. But unfortunately all the multiplayer modes delete half of what makes the game fun...can't go in buildings anymore, use elevators, etc. And there's no coop, which is a shame.

My problem with TLAD was not that it was buggy or that it was a huge file. My problem with it was that it was a steaming pile of rotten s***. The story was stupid, ALL the characters were COMPLETE pusstastic whiny scumbag loser ***hole s***heads who you don't care about at all so, consequently, the story is meaningless in ADDITION to sucking. Who's going to play a game that features only people they hate? There's not a single character in that game I did not absolutely HATE. That's not fun, and it's not compelling. All the previous GTA main characters have been guys who were certainly bad guys, but you could still root for them. You can't root for anyone in TLAD, because they're all the kind of ***hole you generally find yourself wishing would get hit by several busses.

Saints Row 2 takes everything awesome about the first game and perfects it. Then it adds anytime drop-in/drop-out coop to the ENTIRE singleplayer game (which means you can do missions with a friend), adds some awesome new cheats (which are available in coop), and adds aircraft (both helicopters and planes). It doesn't look anywhere near as nice as GTA4 and the car handling is unfortunately a bit arcadey for my tastes, but even given those two things, it's ten times as much fun as GTA4 is. Oh, also, Saints Row 2 doesn't restrict the weapons you can use in a car. If you're the passenger, you can lean out the window and fire of your RPG if you feel like it.

thanks for posting your opinions on the download. I am happy to say that I haven't downloaded the first or the second DLC. I have yet to finish the game, I am stuck at the bank robbery scene with Packie.

My only gripe with GT4 is that I can not believe that I have to take my virtual friends out just to keep them happy. It's a friggin action game. (I do want the gamer points)

This is exactly how i feel. When i first got it, it seemed like the best game ever, i played it for hours. Then i got stuck on a mission and didnt really play it much. I just tried to play it a couple weeks ago, and I couldnt see why I was so into it in the first place.

Isnt it funny how when it came out that it was being called the greatest game ever and getting perfect reviews, but once the hype wears off it really isnt as great as we all thought?

I really didn't like the singleplayer even at the start. The babysitting of your friends ruined the freedom that GTA REQUIRES to be enjoyable. And the fact that so many missions end in huge shootouts despite the fact that shooting is the game's biggest weakness really began to grate on me. I gave up on the singleplayer aspect of the game after only a short while...only GTA game I have not finished, aside from GTA Advance which I do not own.

But multiplayer grew boring after a while, too, because it disables so much of the living world that is there in the singleplayer mode. But multiplayer is the only way to escape the babysitting bullcrap, so I'd play closed multiplayer games so I could screw around without getting freaking imaginary phone calls every 3 seconds. That grew pretty old pretty fast, though. Multiplayer is still fun with friends (the one thing Saints Row 2 lacks compared to GTA4 is support for LARGE NUMBERS of players in multiplayer...SR2 coop is 2 player max) but aside from that the game really lacks appeal because there's so much unnecessary garbage that gets in the way of having fun...which is the ENTIRE point of a videogame.

As far as the story mode goes I played got all the way to the part of the story where you have to kill some people and then escape on the back of a crotch rocket, needless to say I got so frustrated that I just gave up and put it away for almost a year, played it for an hour last friday and then put it away again.

Needless to say my attention so far as gaming is concerned is focused solely on OFP:DR and Forza 3, both come out next month and the demo's should be arriving soon for both. I put SR2 on my xmas list as well as the disc that has both of the GTA4 DLC's but realistically I won't be sad if I don't get either.

I just installed the copy of GTA IV that I bought a couple of months ago and I'm loving it. When it started I was a little lost as to what I should be doing but I'm addicted to it now. This "Lost and Damned" and "The Ballad Of Gay Tony" are these like expansion paks or something?

They're expansion packs, yes. They have different main characters, though Niko appears in some of the cutscenes for TLAD. They're not major additions like Vice City though...no new cities or even new parts of the city. Just a handful of forgettable new cars, some horrible new missions, and a bunch of terrible characters.

PC version lacks terrible DLC and instead gets the excellent director mode. I'd say that's a very fair trade.

Sometimes I get the urge to buy the PC version just for the director mode...but I'm not sure how much I'd use it.
