To a lesser extent it already has...

May 10, 2006:
The game was shown in trailer form at E3, codenamed 'Vision Gran Turismo', with fully animated pit crews, a vastly increased number of cars on-track and huge numbers of 3D animated people in the paddock area. It looks ready to ship.
December 24, 2006
Gran Turismo HD is released on PSN. It's a one-track demo of the game, given away for free to get us excited about the real thing.
July 2, 2007
Yamauchi says the game 'could be pushed back as far as late 2008'.
December 13, 2007
Gran Turismo 5: Prologue is released in Japan. Seeing as Gran Turismo 4 had a similar pre-release version to tide us over, the real thing must indeed be shaping up for a 2008 release.
April 2008
The game's producer, Kazunori Yamauchi, states in an interview that the game's been in production for 4 years already. That's plenty of time to make a game.
December 2, 2008
Sony's chief executive in southern Europe, James Armstrong, is quoted in Spanish newspaper El Financiero as saying: "the new version of Gran Turismo... will arrive at Christmas".
2 June 2009

August 12, 2009
Online retailer Amazon lists the game for a December 29, 2009 release. But of course, no massive game would lauch in the week after Christmas, so nobody believes it.
August 2009
Gran Turismo 5 is featured in playable form at Gamescom in Cologne, with zero fanfare from Sony. There's a video of the new damage modelling too. It looks ready to ship.
September 24, 2009
Sony officially announces a March 2010 release date. Woot!
October 2009
Gran Turismo Portable is released, featuring a teaser trailer that says '2010' in it.
December 17, 2009
A time trial demo is released on PSN. It looks ready to ship.
Jan 7, 2010
New screenshots emerge. They're really starting to hype it now.
January 10, 2010
The game is shown running in 3D at a CES show in Las Vegas, underwhelming most critics. But the aim is to ship the game alongside the first wave of 3D TV sets, which start this summer. But that's after the March release date...
January 13, 2010
The game's March release is scrapped, with the game delayed indefinitely.
February 2010
I'm personally down on the GamesRadar review schedule to review the finished game at the end of the month. Predictably, it never appears.

Good God I still remember seeing the 'vision' trailer for the first time. That trailer sucks now compared to the more recent ones

Polyphony Digital was 3 days late getting the game to press, and that caused the delay.

I read that they want it out 8-12 days after black friday.

So I hear this delay is because Sony is mandating all games shipped after nov 1 be "sdk 3.50" ready or something like that. Basically the new firmware for ps3 so that it can't be played on ps3s jail broken with the recent 3.41 exploit. That's what caused polyphony digital to miss the manufacture date by 3 days.

Argh, ye matey.

This is absolutely par for the course for them. Every Grand Turismo titled has been delayed numerous times.

My God, I'm laughing so hard I'm crying right now. Maybe Sony is having problem with the outsourced cyberskin hitchhiker they wanted to add to the premium edition. You know, for the ultimate in driving stimulation...I mean simulation.

All the articles are saying that since it was announced at SEMA that the disc are being stamped currently that it should make it out within a month, Dec 6th is rumored.
