I'm back to working on my suspension again. I'm trying to find good springs to match KYB GR2 shocks. I decided on the GR2s mainly because of cost ($328/set from Tire Rack). I'm open to other suggestions for shocks at a similar price.

Ive been looking at 3 sets of springs that offer ~1.5" drop with relatively stiff spring rates. I dont want to drop much more than 1.5" since Ive heard so much about those springs wearing out the shocks faster.

The 3 springs I'm considering are (from the FAQ):

TEIN S-TECH(progressive, TEIN only lists the maximal rate)Spring Rate - F : 3.7Spring Rate - R : 3.2Ride Height - F : -1.5"Ride Height - R : -1.2"

RS*R RACE SPRINGSSpring Rate - F: 5.0Spring Rate - R: 4.2Ride Height - F: -1.4" Ride Height - R: -1.0"

MEGAN RACING LOWERING SPRINGS MR-LS-NS14 (s14):Springrate F: 6.25kg/mm (350lbs/in)Springrate R: 4.46kg/mm (250lbs/in)Ride Height F: 1.75"Ride Height R: 1.75"

The Megans may be too stiff (and have too much drop) for the GR2s.

I'd like to use this setup for a daily driven S14 that may see a few autoX events this summer. My budget is around $500 (shocks and springs). Any advice or recommendations??

I was also interested in one point at the Megan springs but was kind of weirded out by the extremely high spring rates on them. I have only read things about them being way too stiff. I personally have RS*R springs and coudlnt be happier with them.

RSR drop will be the most effective with GR2 but won't look low like lots a ladies like

Go with the RSR springs with the GR2's. KYB did not design the GR2 to be used with a lowering spring kit. Because of this I would get the kit with the least amount of drop. This way you stand a better chance of not needing new struts in a year.

There have been quite a few threads in this forum about the GR2's and AGX's being underdamped when paired with the RS*R Race springs and most people recommended Koni Yellows with those.

gr2 shocks are meant as OEM replacment, not for lowering. they will blow reasonably quick if you use lowering springs on them.

people do it all the time though.

I just bought GR2 shocks and struts for my lowered datsun because theonly options were gabriel and kyb. how do you think this will work out?as far as handling and longevity? you really think they'll be shot withinthe year?

this should give you an idea of where its sitting. unfortunately, koni doesn't make anything for my car. the only other type that kyb makes is gas-a-justbut only for the rear shocks, not for the struts up front.

I'd also say to the posts creator, I got all 4 GR2's for $166 bucks.

True

although if you had to lower the car, the 'safest' bet seems to be the RSR Race springs because they aren't progressive and the drop is conservative.
