Check out GPS receivers and map software at http://www.Delorme.com. I have older versions of their Street Atlas software and Earthmate receiver and I very happy with both. The newer ones are even better. Within your budget, you should be able to get their handheld receiver and Street Atlas and topographical software.

How does $10 a month for GPS sound to you? Thats what I have on my phone and I could cancel and and have it whenever I want and it works like a charm. I work for Verizon Wireless and most people dont realize that phones these days have that capability. Look into that and see if your phone is capable of doing so

Yes i know most phones can do that now and some networks can support it .. i HAD an iPhone but sold it to a buddy for his 2 JWT Pop and Ztube

Some states dont allow you to even use a phone while driving \so unless that phone can yell out directions its useless to look at it.

For me.. ill stick with the Pioneer AVIC in dash Plus i have no monthly fee

Same here I am not a big fan of monthly fees. I have a streetpilot 310. Works like a charm. Also my biggest issue with the phone is the size of the screen. It is too small and if you want to replace your phone you have few option to pick. The size of the phone with gps capability is too big for me.

The garmin nuvi c360 is hot. I have no complaints with it so far. Don't know how I got by without it on road trips.

My buddy was telling me that Garmin >> Tomtom, so I didn't even bother researching the latter.

Yes you guys are right about it being illegal in your car...But its not illegal in Cali until July 2008, I realize this might be different in other states. I dont have to look at the screen, since my car is setup with bluetooth..it gives you the directions over the car speakers. U dont need a big screen to tell you where to turn..you just need an arrow telling you when to turn..i dont care about giving me a display of the surrounding streets or forecast. Dont get me wrong tho, some people like it and some people just prefer spending a couple hundred on a garmin or whatever

I know don't misunderstand us. We just put our thought in. I still prefer the cellphone as small as it is possible. Cell phones with Navi capability are too big for me.

very true and i just thought some phones backlight turns off or else out of batteries

Everytime you want to see an arrow , you must hit a button or keep it on the charger.

I know im young , but being young you own many many many of the new tech devices... Ive had the Cingular 8000 series PDA phone , an iPhone , almost all the Motorola brands, and i would still prefer the speed and FREENESS of the GPS units. My iPhone had a weird network so it ran slow while using the turn by turn.

Unless they make a phone that projects a HUD on your windshield showing turn by turn , ill stick with my INDASH

I never thought about that. Another reason I guess.
