Hey all -

Looking for dash mount ideas for GPS. I think Nissan offered some kind of kit / stand where the wiring went into the dash, but just looking to see what everyone has done to make a nice clean looking GPS install that doesn't monopolize the power jack.

I don't use standalone GPS units but use a smartphone with GPS. For mounting these I always use ProClip's device mounts (you need a device mount paired with a vehicle mount for a complete solution). Typically I'll pair them with Panavise's brackets as ProClip's vehicle mounts tend to use double sided tape and friction where Panavise actually bolts on. For power, I use an Add-A-Circuit available from most auto parts stores. ProClip sells docks for many devices that come with a bare wire which can be soldered/crimped to the Add-A-Circuit. ProClip isn't cheap but you you get what you pay for in my experience. I'm not sure if they offer docks for standalone GPS units or not but you can check their site at http://www.proclipusa.com

Our Rogue actually has 2 different mounts since my wife and I have different smartphone models. One is mounted on the upper dash to the right of the instrument cluster. In this case I did use ProClip's vehicle mount and had to drill a hole into the base of the mount to route the power cord through the mount and between the dash panels that the mount attaches to.

The second mount uses a Panavise bracket and mounts to the right of the radio. Wires are just tucked between dash panels there. The wiring kit I used for this mount was designed to use the power outlet and I didn't want to use the existing one so I wired another hidden away in the dash for this mount.

Well, those are great ideas, but I don't have a smart phone, and don't really want to pay for a data plan.

I have done some research though, and I've found out that the Nissan dash-mount GPS kit can be installed by do-it-yourselfers, and you don't have to buy the whole $300+ 999Q5-GU012 Garmin nav system kit!

All you need to do is order the Nissan universal mount kit - PG05-Charcoal mount part number is 999Q5-GU002, and it's $65. Then you can pick up a Garmin Nuvi for it on Ebay for $100! Much cheaper option than the complete kit, and you free up the power outlets in the rogue!

Here's an example of the install kit instructions I found online for putting this in a Nissan Cube:

Looks super easy to do. Rogue would have a different template included in the kit.

Hope this helps the rest of you! I'll do a write-up with pictures when I complete this!
