no need for a new ecu just to remove the speed limiter, it's actually a quick an easy mod. well i seeing as i don't know what year and model your car is i'm going to just give you general instructions for a 91-93 (more then likely it works on other years/models). first off you might have noticed that the speed limiter is not actually based on speed. try putting your car into fifth with the clutch to the floor and rev the engine, won't go past 5000 rpms huh? the ecu is fed a signal by sensors on your transmission letting it know what gear your in and how many rpms your at, there 5 or so electrical connectors on the manual transmission casing, you need to disconnect the 2 connectors for the 4th and 5th gear sensors, if i remember correctly it's the two furthest to the rear of the car (if anyone with a Factory Service Manual could confirm this that'd be great, my chiltons is absolutely useless). now again get in the car, clutch to the floor, in 5th gear, rev it. if it goes beyond 5000 rpms you've done it. jump on the interstate and test it out. if i've missed anything or made a mistake then please post the correction so that people aren't misinformed. good luck
