The placement of the infamous vehicle speed sensor is exactly as described in the faq page. The wire cut with ease, but there is a problem. The cut wire triggers the check engine light that I do not have on my dash board (checked the ecu codes) and causes the car to retard the fuel(as if I hit the governer) (I posted the problem a couple days ago and got little feedback). I have a 1989 sohc it wouldnt let me accelerate past 80 mph no matter what. the car would fuel cut at 4600 rpm in 3rd gear, 4050 in 4th gear and 3600 in fifth gear. Giving me a max speed of 80 or 81 mph. If anyone wants to tell me what I did wrong then please do because not having a governer would be greatthanks

i believe you are suppose to wire that wire to something not sure what tho . dosent it tell you to do something with that wire once you cut it?

dunno about sohc but on my car I cut the wire at the ecu and then unplugged the 5th gear sensor on the transmission to eliminate the limiter in fifth gear. What wire did you cut? Was it on the ecu plug or somewhere else?

It was on the ecu plug. It triggers the check engine light. I didnt remove any transmission sensors, because I couldnt even get above 80

well the problem is that our cars (atleast the DOHCs) have 2 limiters one goes by speed (speed sensor) and one for RPMS. the rpm limiter is triggered by each of the individual gear sensors try unplugging the 4th and 5th rpm senders and see what happens. maybe nistech can confirm this.

no I really cant confirm it since i fix cars to work like the factory designed them to. so i dont really know which compnents the computer watches to make the determination to cut injectors. That is the tricks of the guys who alter the cars in an attempt to increase performance. I only comented on it cause I had glanced at either a post or a faq talking about doing this. sorry fellas

Yeah that whole wire-cut method isn't really worth it...I'd like to know how fast I'm going;-)

I was planning on doing that, but I've decided to go with either an ECU reflash or a standalone (prefered...)

I tried the ECU wire cut about a year ago and had the same problems. I just connected the wire back up and delt with the limiters.

Have any of you tried using a rev speed meter in conjuction with cutting the wire? I dunno if it will help because my 98 is different, I never had any of these problems, maybe because of OBD2

Do you really have to "The last step is to disconnect a control wire that comes from the transmission area and passes by the passenger side of the starter in the engine compartment. You'll find another simple electrical connection (looks like a tube style fuse holder) with small gauge wire. Unhook this connection and then drive your car and you'll notice the speedometer doesn't work, nor do the number onyour odometer change. What you've disconnected is the sensor that transmits the speed to the ECU and the display. Now the computer tries to watch your speed to make sure you don't go past 115mph (S13 model, S14 may vary higher), but never cuts off your fuel since it doesn't have a clue how fast you're traveling." ?

That sux, is there any way to getting around this?

I am sure there is a flash program or an E-prom that you can do to the computer. to remove the limiters. but it is most likley not cheap. do a search for "flash program" or "chip"

I disconnected the 4th and 5th sensors, taped em up, and drove it to bout 108 MPH, and nothing seemed wrong, I have yet to reach 112 before knowing the treuth of the matter, but shall try it soon, please post if I'm gonna end up killing myself or something cuz the engine shuts off :(
