I had my V for only a few months and I decided to get rid of it; I got an '08 VW Jetta instead.

Some of you may wonder why I got rid of the V. Well, basically I wasn't happy with the car. Oh it was an OK car and mine got great mileage - never under 32mpg! I just felt the car was too small; It had an odd driving position for me and while it was ok on commuting, it was not comfortable to me after 15 - 20 min. Plus I became to dislike the tall windows as I felt like I was driving a fishbowl. I have other reasons, but I don't feel like typing all that.

I shopped hard for a sweet deal and got one. I traded it in. As for trade values, Carmax wanted to give me only $11K, and over charge for their used cars. Carmax is recently selling thier cars for a couple grand OVER Kelly Blue Book and Edmunds retail values. They had 2 '06 jettas and were asking $16K for one that had paint damage (KKB value $15K) and they had a nicer one w/ 12,000 miles and were asking $19800. I bought a 2008 SE for $18K from the VW dealer. Guess Carmax is trying to cover Circuit City's losses?!?!?

Anyway, I finally got a decent trade of $13K (2008 SL, CVT, convenience, 3500 miles) I bought the V below invoice and then got the rebate; so I bought it really right!

I hope I was able to offer some ideas and insight. I'll check in here and there to see what is up.

Sorry to see another Versa be replaced, but you've gotta do what's best for you.

NAZI CAR! BOO!!

I'm just playin'. My fiance' is looking at trading in her Mazda 3 for an EOS. We saw a mockup of the EOS a few years back at the Tampa Auto Show. The production model doesn't look as cool but she wants a convertible. Can't WAIT to see what the insurance is going to be on that.

Sorry to see you go, Offshore1.

My previous car was a 2003 GTI VR6 with 58K miles on it. I unfortunately had to get rid of it since there were so many problems with it... A/C condenser had a hole in it, clutch master and slave cylinder seals were shot, driver airbag had a short in it causing the dash light to go off, coolant would slightly leak at normal operating pressure.... just a flurry of problems that would have ended up costing me about $5K to fix. After explaining everything and reading responses on a few VW forums, all these issues were common occurrences for the MarkIV GTI at around 60K miles. A lot of people speculate that quality really slipped when they decided to build NA models in Mexico.

Luckily, VW spend a metric f--k ton of money on the Mexico plant prior to production of these new MarkV's:
Wiki wrote:US$800 million was spent upgrading the factory in Puebla for its production. This included a US$290 million new engine production line for the 5 cylinder power plant, a US$50 million investment in the press shop, as well as a US$200 million purchase of 460 robots, which increased automation by 80%.
Hopefully the increased automation will have a huge positive impact on build quality.

I'm really liking the new Jetta TDI, though. If VW does release the Rabbit TDI in the US for the 2010 model year, I might go shopping for one as a replacement for my Versa.

Different (bore and) stroke for different folks I guess...

I looked into a Jetta before getting my V, and opted for the V because it was way more comfortable for me, and I could get the V for a few G's cheaper.

Hope you enjoy your VW. I still drive my old '91 Golf (made in Mexico, no major problems at 265000 and counting). My wife drives the V. There's something charming about VWs that will always stay with you. (At least it seems that way to me)

Thankfully I am in a position that I am able to afford almost any car I would like. Bought the Versa cause I wanted room and mileage. But it just didn't fit me well. I did get great mileage after the break in. NEVER lower than 32 MPG.

This is actually the 2nd Jetta I had. I also had a MKIV VR6 a few years back.

As far as VW's - had more than I can count. Back in the 60's, my father owned a VW Dealership in Lorain Ohio. But I was too young to drive when he had the VW dealership.

My boy had a golf and that car was el sukko. i would never buy a vw unless i knew it was built in germany. the versas are reluctantly built in mexico but my belief is that the japanese are more strict in quality control than the germans are abroad. proof being a german ceo ran the company i deliver for to the ground. he was release earlier this year and the company is disbanding. i guess german execs abroad are lazy and stupid. just my take.
