So I was talking cars with an old friend of mine when he mentions that he's trying to get rid of his old muffler. Turns out to be a thermal r&d muffler (not sure exactly which model), one in, two out with 3" chrome tips. He claims he paid $180 for the muffler and $50 each for the tips.. how much did I pay? $50. Initially, I just liked it cause it looked like a polished up stock muffler, definitely not aggressive. I took it to a local shop here in san marcos and got it put on with a 2.5" pipe to the resonator for $125. So all in all I only paid $175.. not too shabby if you ask me. And when they started her up to pull her out of the garage it was like a four banger symphony. Deep as hell, but almost so quiet that you don't hear it, or think you don't hear it. When you push it, it just sounds nice and deep, never gets excessively loud, and decelerating just sounds pure evil. So two thumbs up for the muffler. As for performance, theres definitely a loss of torque. I stalled my car on a hill for the first time in.. well, a long time. Definitely seems to be a power gain on my butt dyno, but I'll have to wait for some highway driving to really tell. The roads are too curvy around here. If anything, it just feels like the power band has been evened out a little. Doesn't have that big pull in the lower band, but now it actually pulls in the upper band. I guess now all I need is a lighter flywheel to get that acceleration back and some cams to straighten the band out a little more and I'll be golden.
