I'm looking at a nice 2006 AWD SL as an option to replace my wife's XC90. I'm a massive Nissan fan, and would like to get her into this Murano, but this model isn't one that I know that well. I've read of some CVT failures, but the data around that is sketchy. I've also read the stories of brake squeal, but newer pads seem to fix that.

Any other gotchas to be aware of? Are the AWD systems reliable? (that's one of the weak links in the Volvo).

Any help is appreciated!

I'd be very wary of any used car - and the Mo's are no different. Lots of the problems you read about in these forums are reported by 2nd owners who are suffering with cars (many of them previous rentals) that have been driven VERY hard by the first owners/renters.

Lots of people treat these cars as if they are trucks - which they aren't.

I wish the budget would permit new, but I'm in a spot where used may be the way to go. Perhaps a CPO is the way to go. With one exception, all of the Nissans I've owned have been used, and all of them have been phenomenal. Maybe it's just my "used Nissan" track record instilling faith that the next will be solid, too!

We just purchased a used 06 Murano and talked the dealer into including a Compass Extended Service Plan 5 years/ 125,000 miles so if there's any problems hopefully the ESP will cover most or all of them. It's a pretty complete package from what the paper work states
