Ok so last night as i was picking up my gf in chinatwn i finally got TICKETED for my windows tints. After TWO YEARS without getting ticketed i finally got busted. Now I ordered a set of 20% all around my windows except for my rear windows.

But the state police with his stupid tint monitor piece of crap got a 14%. Also when I got my citation, it had on the wrong address and got the percentage wrong on my tints. And that not all my windows were tinted, just the two back windows and two front windows, and the rear isnt.( i failed at tinting the rear myself since i never knew you cud take off the brake light, and never had the time to do the rear)

I want to appeal this. Is it possible for me to win the appeal since the cop had my address wrong and the percent tint that i've gotten? Was thinking of taking a picture of another altima without the tints and bring it to the appeal and say i've removed them? will that help? Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestion.

Billy.

Percent is probably right, (he had a meter didnt he?)Address isnt enough to get it thrown out IMO

You may be able to get out of the fine if you can produce something from a shop saying it was removed.... Here in NY you have 24 hrs from when the ticket is issued to get it taken off and a receipt stating so... theres an official state form you need to get filled out by the shop too...

yea...but it was like 3am in the morning and he had a light beaming like no other. been researching about tint laws and how to fight it in mass. i mean honestly, $250 for tinted windows? read up somewhere it was a safety hazard for police, but i really believe its a bullsh*t excuse to make money off of us. Do you happen to know if this will increase my insurance points?

ic. then i'll just pay out of pocket. Not worth the time and hassle of coming up with a detailed plan for fighting this stupid thing. Still cant believe a tint citation is worth up to 250 dollars O_O, just really unreasonable to me. Well thanks longbeach appreciate it.

Dont forget your windows have a slight factory tint to them, so adding aftermarket tint on top of that may make the reading more than what you had put on.

Although I'm all for getting windows tinted as dark as you want, I do see the reasoning as to why its a safety concern for police. They need to protect themselves and what are they supposed to do if they cant see some crazy driver with a gun cuz his tints pitch black? I also however believe its a a$$ move for cops just to pull someone over cuz of dark tint. Guess its just a chance we all take getting pulled over...

Im a MA resident as well man, where you from?

To the OP, regarding your back window, its pretty easy to just remove the brake light, it just snaps out of place!

I've got tickets for tint like 5 times. Two times for having tinted taillights. The other 3 were for driver and passenger window tint. It get's pretty damn expensive having to put on tint over and over again.

IDK, I think San Diego cops are just more lenient than cops in the rest of SOCAL!

Exactly - this is why 35% tint sold as being legal is false since the vast majority of cars come with a small amount of tint from the factory. The percentage only applies to the tinit and not the window its applied to.

PLaza Bonita is in National city, not San Diego..... Nigt and day diffference between the populace in those two areas. Again, not stating that San Diego is all roses, but in certain areas of the city (Downtown LaJolla, Hillcrest, etc) there are few cops to be seen. And the ones that are there seem like they have better things to do than bother folks about tint and what not.

Now, for the record, my daughter's previous day care was in the LInda Vista area of San Diego. And while taking her to daycareone day, I pass by a cop, and he does a U-turn, and follows me into the daycare parkinglot. He approaches my car cautiously and asked me why my tint was so dark (I do have 5% tint all around). I told him that, honestly, I knew my tint was too dark, but my car got broken into a few times, so I put tint on it to ward off thieves. He saw my daughter in her car seat, realized Iwasn't a threat, and just ran my license to make sure I didn't have warrants. In the end, he just told me to roll down the windows if I see other cops and finished with "oh by the way, nice car"

THat has been my interaction with San Diego police, but National City, Chula Vista, and CHP are a whole othr monster entirely!

Wow...Ohio actually wins at something!

From what I have read into laws...you can only have 50% on the front windows (yea...kind of a lot...)

But on the rest of the car there is no Minimum.

And really...I think you could get away with 35% on the sides...because that isn't THAT dark...I have seen a lot of Audi's driving around with 5% the whole way...and I know if I was a cop I wouldn't want to walk up to a car like that and have the guy just rolling his window down...so I understand the law.

so when he walks up to a car that is completley tinted dark and the window is up they roll down the window and put 2 in his chest and take off because he couldn't see in? wow that really seems like a law just made for profit for them.

Look you come on here and say that you have driven around for 2 years breaking the law every time you pull onto a public road and then you get one ticket and go on about poor me and hes a d!ck because he was looking out for his or another's safety...your a tool

Hey Billy Hoang: You're busted.

Nice work trying to use a stolen credit card to buy parts from one of our vendors. I'm turning over all your info to the police, the lady wants to press charges.

p.s. Eat a d***.

Seriously. After seeing what he and Ace2Cool dug up on that other scammer in Gen Chat a few months back I have been a bit scared of the two.
