Of course out of warranty a few months when it happened after a cold spell last December. Finally got it into service center.

The service writer is charging $293 for the door actuator and $279 for labor.

So that is nearly $600 to open my door on a 3 year old vehicle.

It won't open manually or by remote. No way , no how.

ps- I admit I was ignorant about these things happening until I read it here. I guess I took it for granted that a simple door mechanism would fail and not let you inside your vehicle. I had a 1990 maxima and it's electronic locks never gave me a problem over 16 years. And I never had a door problem where I could never enter the car because of the handle. Just ranting.

I've never heard of this problem (there are probably a lot of problems/things I've never heard about with these cars) but, that's pretty sucky.

I will say though that my Rogue is great but Hondas don't have these kind of problems/quirks. My 12 Rogue with 4300 miles has more rattles/interior sounds than my 06 Accord did with 90k miles, and I've NEVER had any windshield noise with my Accord.

To me, the order of quality of Japanese vehicles goes like this:
1) Honda
2) Toyota
3) Nissan---Subaru (tied)
4) Mazda
5) Mitsubishi (the "Chrysler" of the Japanese brands)

That's my quick list based on my experiences and the experiences I've heard from others. It may not help you out or anything, just wanted to share.

its gonna be happening a lot these days. crappy lite weight materials. its a common problem when unlubed joints freeze up.

To my knowledge Subaru is not toyota. Toyota owns a 16% stake in Fuji Heavy Industries (parent company of Subaru) so they are in a partnership of sorts, but they are two different companies.

And you are right... Based on what a few sites are saying, Mazda has really stepped their game up, so Nissan may even be lower on the list.

I'll tell you what, I want to see how the newly redesigned Rogue looks and performs/holds up over time, how the newly redesigned Forester performs/holds up over time, how the CX-5 GT performs/hold up over time, how the Jeep Cherokee performs/holds up over time, and how you like your new Santa Fe over the years...

When my lease is up, these will be the cars (as of right now) that will be on my list to check out.

Fuji Heavy Industries, the parent company of Subaru, is currently in a partial partnership with Toyota Motor Corporation, which owns 16.5% of FHI.

The 86 (brz) is sold under three different brands associated with its creators, Toyota and Subaru. Toyota (Toyota 86 in Japan, South Africa and Australia and Toyota GT86 in Europe and both names in New Zealand), Subaru (Subaru BRZ) and Scion (Scion FR-S for the United States and Canada).

The Toyota FT-86 was a concept car manufactured jointly by Toyota and Subaru. The vehicle consists of many design cues from the earlier FT-HS concept. It features a 2.0-litre Toyota-Subaru "D-4S" boxer engine. The FT-86 rides on a modified Subaru Impreza platform with 101.2-inch wheelbase, with length, width, and height measuring 163.8, 69.3, and 49.6 inches, respectively.

idk about you guys, but to me: toyota = subaru. (and thats not a bad thing at all. both are legendary companies making excellent products)

Subaru and Toyota did collaborate on the FRS/BRZ project and I'm sure they've done other similar chassis or model specific joint ventures and likely some sharing of technology. But they aren't really close enough to be considered under the same umbrella (ie. VW/Audi/Lambo, Renault/Nissan, Kia/Hyundai).

Yeah their partnership is moot when talking reliability/quality of each brand

Nissan holds a 15 percent stake in Renault. while toyota owns 16.5% in FHM. so in reality, toy/sub is actually MORE of one another than nissan/renault.

do i think toyota directly controls subie, the way honda/acura control one another? not a chance. but they are very-very much so "together". like nissan and renault are.

Nissan may own 15% of Renault.. but Renault owns 44.4% of Nissan.. hence the alliance.
