The car runs fine. makes a little noise and smoke but it has been sitting for six months. But we tried to bleed the power streeing system and something is making a horible racket when you turn the wheel. Also it's harder to turn left than right, and it shakes the wheel slightly. Is that the power sterring pump or the steering assist servo?

If you get air in the system while you're changing the PS fluid, it can get STUPID LOUD whenever you turn the steering wheel.

Also, any trapped air tends to get whipped up into a froth - So, you end up with PS fluid that looks like pink Cool-Whip.

Suggestion: Run it for a little while, shut it down and let the froth change back into fluid overnight, and then top it off with fresh PS fluid in the morning. Repeat as needed.

how many times do I turn the wheel back and forth before it's all good, I replaced the rack and we drained all of the fluid.

One thing I've heard works really good to remove air is to remove the return line to the res and let it drain into a container and continue to add fluid.. The fluid goes in a loop and will work it's way out.

My first Q had got air in the system and it was a PAIN to work out, and turning the wheels from lock to lock didn't do it, I took it to a shop and that's the procedure they did.

I managed to get it working by just turning the wheels. But it is still not 100% smooth all the time.

The Methood I use at the shop when I do any p/s work is fill reservoir then, with front wheels lifted engine off, turn the wheel lock to lock, stopping to top off again. When done turning at least 10 or more times, start car and top off fluid. Then turn slowly lock to lock with engine running. If u get bubbles or foam u have air leak in suction hose or possibly in cooler lines or weak/ loose hose clamps. The recent q45 I acquired had a bad hose clamp causing air to get pulled in, new clamp and tightened fixed. Po thought it needed a new pump....
