Heh heh heh, that's right folks I got even mor stuff to play with today. I went to dallas with a friend of mine to pick up his car from CTC Motorsports (where he had their new turbo kit installed and it made 326hp and 290tq at 15lbs, but that is another story) While I was there I noticed that they had a set of Border solid subframe bushings sitting on the shelf. Upon inquiry about them I was told they were for sale, so I snatched them mofos up!! I will try to post some pics of them tomorrow for you guys, they are very purple :)

yay for me!

Ok here is an update...

I got two friends over and we dropped the subframe out of the car. This took about 10 minutes. I got the inserts and put them where they are supposed to go, this took about 5 minutes. Then I lined everything back up and bolted everything back in place, this took about 15 minutes.

Positive aspects: Basically in 30 minutes I went from mega wheelhop that was absolutely insane to nice smooth wheelspin that had no hop whatsoever. It also fixed a problem I was having with my rear end in which it felt "jiggly" when coming out of a turn. now it is rock solid and the "jiggle" is gone entirely.

Unforseen side effects: I noticed that I am getting a lot more road noise (but I could really care less, and I sorta expected it) I also noticed that I the car seems a bit more darty at highway speeds, is it possible that these changed my toe in the rear? Also, my rear rims are bent and now the car vibrates way more than it did.

However, the positives FAR outweigh the negatives. I highly recommend these purple mofos :D

what? I have 3* negative camber in back, I am wondering if these change the toe in the rear. They didn't bend anything...

"is it possible that these changed my toe in the rear" hell yes. anytime you remove a suspension bushing, you move things slightly...maybe without even knowing it. And those bushings probably dont deflect under a load like the old rubber ones, which alone can cause allignment settings to change.-chet

ahhhhh ok then, I was wondering about that. Like I said, it is a bit darty at highway speeds, but now it seems to turn in and come out much better.

BTW, these are just inserts that go in and around the old bushings, basically squeeze them together hella tight and make a solid link between the subframe and the body of the car and also the bolts on the bottom of the subframe since it is an upper and lower insert for the four mounting points.

Yeah anytime you disassemble most of the front/rear suspension you're gonna want get it realigned.

Ok so you didnt get the solid alum subframe bushings hehe... Would of taken a hell of alot longer then 30 mins to get the bushings out and put the alum ones in hehe.

I did the low buck approach to this a week ago, with the 1 3/8" and 1 5/8" flat washers... For 11.33$ :) While yours press in the center of the bushing slightly (obviously mine cant), mine do the same secondary effect with not allowing the subframe to move more then a 1/16 - 1/8 either way :) One day I may go with the kazama as the flat washers weigh about 4 lbs total, or probably 3.5 lbs more then the alum inserts. But for now I wanted to fix the so called "wagging" effect before the 6th auto-x and I def didnt have 100$ for them hehe

In the videos from my auto-x I have of hard cornering and slalom you can see the roll of the rear with about a .5 sec delay to the fronts which have nearly 0 roll. On the street I could notice the car acting as if it where divided by a bearing, allowing the front to stay planted while the rear rolled. This is now greatly reduced...

The original design allows for quite a bit of movement before the bushing is fully compressed / extended, and before the suspension is 100% utilized.. This also removes alot of road noise, and gives the car a more safe push or understeer bias. I may add a set to my girls stock 92 too see how much of an effect it has on a stock chassis. The reason it feels more darty is beacuse the inputs arent going though the bushings then to the suspension anymore. Its a more direct approach, and is what I accredit it too.

The spacers keep the subframe in the exact same spot as the metal insert in the bushing rests on the frame and on the lower brackets, and as the spacer fits around these the subframe basically remains unmoved.

I didnt have an alignment done, and doubt I will... I will be able to run more front pressure then rear (my previous setup was 36 f 38 r) at my next auto-x or mabey equal ... Since I wasnt using 100% contact patch in the rear this should be nice to gain.

The road noise is pretty pronounced now though eh? hehe Kinda nice to have a different sound then Baaaaaaaa from the exhaust, its like a BaaaWaWaWaWaW with the wawa's increasing in speed as mph does. Then again if I wanted a quiet cushy ride I would have gotten an Infiniti...

edit: did those have the upper ones notched to clear the studs or was it solid requiring the full dropping of the subframe? SPL parts shows the kazama ones notched on the uppers (bottom of page). I notched the flat washers in the same way so I didnt have to drop the subframe. I removed the front bolts and loosened the rears down to the bottom. Jacked up the car and had enough room to slide them in. Then I added the front lowers torqued, and the rear lowers.

yeah, they are just like the kazama ones, but without the notch. look identical except for that aspect.

HAHA yeah no biggie, its a welcomed new noise... Hell even the minor clunks dont bother me... For the change its made it can make noise if it wants :)

And its not the bushings but the spacers, as the bushings are still oem...
