so finally after waiting about 2 weeks after paypalling the people, i finally get my shipments. 2 items from 2 different people. one guy never responded to my emails so i got worried, the other guy seemed shady too. for some reason they dont like to respond to emails... or even when they say, i'll email you tomorrow with the tracking number they wont do it. 2 days pass then ask for it, and still no response until a few days more. anyways i recieved a 1g dsm smic and a 240kph gauge cluster. still awaiting a 1g dsm bov.

so i guess ill start with the smic, its pretty heavy and actually had some peanut stuffing stuck in it... took a while to shake out the piece, because it was so heavy. some fins are bent, but thats ok right? thats normal wear. when i smell the inlet/outlet duct i smell gas, is that normal... i found that kind of odd...

the 240kph gauge cluster was nice until i realized he still had the stock tach in there.... redlines at 6900 rpm and up to 8k. i just didnt read closely enough to the description :( my fault. heres the problem i have right now... i do have another jdm gauge cluster, im just using the speedometer right now (180kph) w/o the 9k tach. i would definitely use the 9k tach, BUT its kinda messed up. i pulled off the needle to get rid of the amber tint thing behind it, i scraped it off with an exacto knife so its clear. when i put it back on it works fine... but not really. i can freely move the needle around, but sometimes the needle will slowly fall back down.

so like, if its on a flat surface i can pull the needle up, it has a little freeplay. but it falls back down and becomes slow. i dont think that made any sense did it. and if anyone understands what i mean... congrats :)... and hows about helping me figure out how to work the 9k tach properly ?

i would post pics if i knew where to host them. other than that i might just attach files if people are having trouble understanding what im talking about :( and btw, im just gathering parts ill potentially need to have to complete a swap... so much more money to spend. good thing im hunting down parts now and not when i have the motor and its the other way around

Good stuff man. It does kinda suck having a motor in the garage and waiting for freaking parts to show up before you can install it:( That IC looks good, and if you want to boost more some day, you will have the piping in place for a MKIV SUpra SMIC. A lot of DSM guys install them as an upgrade, and that is what I will be running my self.

BTW, how much you pay for the cluster?

i bit too much for the 240kph now that i realize it has a 8k redline and not the 9k. BUT, i did get my other cluster CHEAP. haha. the 240kph was like 60 shipped :( not worth now if i think about it... i shouldve read it more oh well.... the one i have right now, i got it for like under $15 HAHAHHAAHA :):):):):)

WOW. JDM clusters usually go for $100+. I got mine for $60 shipped as well. Looks like we got delas;) As for getting the tach to work, jsut swap in your USDM tach or use the JDM speed sensor on the transmission.

Not an S13 thing but I was in the junkyard a couple days ago and stumbles across a '91 Sentra SE-R. One quick look and I broke out my philips head and wire cutters. $22.50 got me a 150mph mechanical driven speedo w/9k tach. Same one as in THIS AUCTION. Gonna wait to install until I get the CA in my Sentra.

If you can take the needles off of the two tach's without damaging them, likely you can swap the face from the 9k tach to the working tach, assuming they're both using the same signaling.. (not sure tho - does 9k lineup where it would be on the other one? or do they scale differently? in that case no go)

otherwise, use the slightly broken tach if its the only one that will work w/ the motor and swap it into the 240kmh cluster or swap the 240kmh speedo into your existing cluster

I've pulled the needle off a tach before only to have it act just like you described. Have no idea what happens. I do know I won't be pulling any more needles off tachs.

However, if you can find a 9k tach that isn't hosed you should be able to remove the whole thing with faceplate and needle and swap it into your JDM cluster.

dude Myetball... i seriously thought i was the only dumbass that pulled it out and when putting it back screwed up. i know im not alone anymore ! :) so whatd you do with the tach ? do you still use it?

oh yeah, the first time i pulled a needle was off my speedometer... BIG NO NO. i drove the car with the needle slowly dropping from 25mph at a red light. too bad i had already pulled off the tach needle and didnt realize the problem... *sigh*

Well, there's a reason I scrounged that SE-R cluster from the junkyard :D I've got a :eyecrazy tach right now. Sometimes it reads right...other times it just goes nuts.

Hey Alan,

I'll tell you right now that that SE-R cluster will be useless to you because the SE-R's diff gear is different than the pulsar's or stanza's and even the tachometer is signalled wrong for the CA18's ecu. I've been there and done that and I've even gone as far as given myself a 20 mph retard to make this thing read accurately with my car's transmission and it will never work correctly. Best thing to do is get a pulsar's cluster and go from there. BTW, You plugs are coming via FEDEX and you should be receiving them tomorrow.

Was yours an electronic or mechanical speedo, and did you swap the speedo pinion gear with the SR transmission?

The speedo I was using was mechanical, but the problem is the gear design on the diff as opposed to the speed sensor. The CA18's diff gear is different from that of the SR20s hence the reason why their final drive ration is higher than that of the CA18's. Unless you got an SR20 diff gear, you would always be reading wrong in the MPH area.

the guy seemed to have forgotten to tell me that it wasnt gonna come with the two bolts to hold the bov to the pipe, that theres a dent in underside of the pipe, and that the gasket is missing a little piece. what a nice guy from ebay. i think ill give him a neg feedback if he doesnt respond in the next two days... but he never really responded to me in the first place... what an ***

I bought a first gen DSM bov a while ago, and it had a dent in the pipe at the exact same spot. Coincidence?

your not messing with me are you?

and gauge cluster wise, isnt there a b12 sentra cluster thats hard to find? has a 125 or 135mph speedo a different tach or something?
