I just got back from checking out my engine at Phase2 in San Dimas. The clip was intact and the body panels were even in pretty good condition. There was a thin strut-tower bar on there, but I already have the Cusco. The engine had an aftermarket filter cone attached, and some HKS stickers on the valve cover. I'll get some pics up when it gets delivered to the mechanic on Tuesday.

I know it's a long shot, but the stickers on the valve cover have me praying that when we crack the engine open to do the head and oil pan, there might already be some aftermarket parts on the valve-train. Given that the car still has the stock SMIC, it's an even longer shot that the guy did something to the topend... but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Good job getting one from phase2. I'm going to be there tomorrow to take care of some bidness with my man Wayne. I know one of the engines he got had a Twin Plate clutch and some other fun stuff in it, so cross your fingers. I'll probably check out your clip tomorrow when I'm there. Want pics?

Please feel free to take pictures if it's still there when you're there. It's the kind of champange / silver one at the back of the shop with the cracked out orange sticker on the valve cover and something that wants to be a strut tower brace. =)

I'm going to borrow a friend's digital camera and get some pictures of the body up.

He goes to the importers and hand picks out the best clips that they have there. If it's not up to his standards, he doesn't buy, no matter what.

Phax, you wanna give me that strut tower bar thing? I could use one ;)

EDIT: Price Range... 2500, maybe less. I haven't asked about buying a clip lately, but I thought i heard him mention 2300 once, but DO NOT hold me to that. I don't work for the guy.

Bud,

Sorry bro, someone else already has dibs on the strut tower bar.

To whoever was interested in cost, I paid $3060 for the S13 redtop clip, a water pump, OEM gasket set (piston rings, turbo gaskets, etc, etc), a Factory Service Manual, and shipping from San Dimas to Costa Mesa.

$3060 shipped?! for a redtop? Damn he made a big profit off you...you could have gotten a red top clip for like 2300 shipped from Flash Options. And yes Flash is good, we've already had some members post about how good their cars are running after ordering clips from Flash Options

As someone else pointed out, I got a couple of other things along with the engine, for the ~3g's. Shipping was $60, and the clip was $2500. I could have gone with Flash Options, and taken the 2 mile trip down to the port to pick it up. I went with Wayne because he's local, has an eye for finding complete clips, and fits into the time schedule and budget that I'm working with. I think from the first email I sent to [email protected], to seeing the clip this weekend, it's been maybe a month at most.

The engine has not yet been opened up to check the internals, and probably won't be for another week or two. First it needs to come out of the car, and I'm waiting on delivery of the Greddy and HKS stuff. I got a great deal on the aftermarket add-ons, but the parts are somewhere in the Pacific right now I think.

EDIT: Phax, if you need me to lend a hand with your swap, just let me know. I'm always down to work on an SR. It is seriously fun stuff.

My part decisions were based on, and will continue to be based on a discount that I get. So, YMMV on the various parts. For this first stage, I got

HKS Rocker Arm StoppersGreddy oil-panGreddy 1.2 mm head gasketRPS clutchLightened flywheel (i'm not quite sure on the source of it)

Those parts, plus the gaskets and waterpump that I got from Wayne will (I hope) be enough to create a stable foundation upon which to build, someday, ~350whp.
