Those are not included in the Global Positioning System, and are still extremely rare in non-cellphone navigation systems.Dattebayo wrote:
Yes. GPS used to operate that way, but since 2007, many have been using the GPRS or cellular abilities they are imbued with now to help find routes and alter them.
That statement is incorrect and demonstrates a fundamental lack of knowledge of the operation of the Global Positioning System.Dattebayo wrote: There has to be some kind of talk back to the satellite from the GPS, otherwise it wouldn't be able to know where you are.
Oh, so now we're being specific. It's not enough that GPS devices use another method to communicate and alter routes, huh.Urabus GodofTraction wrote:The Global Positioning System does not use two-way communication. Not since the 1970s, not since 2007. Not ever. It's just not how it works. The satellites don't receive information from end-user GPS devices.
There are devices that broadcast corrected GPS signals, but those are large, and by nature only work when there exact position is known. One of their uses is to aid in GPS approaches to airports. They're known as DGPS reference stations.
Any two-way system build into a GPS capable device is a feature existing outside of GPS functionality.
Source me up your magical 2007 GPS transmitter.

I've seen a lot of older devices lose the travel vector when a sudden turn is made or the route wasn't followed as shown, but the new ones with the extra service keep the vector the whole time! The fact is they do have transmitting abilities now.
Wrong. Nice attempt at coverup, though.Dattebayo wrote: There has to be some kind of talk back to the satellite from the GPS, otherwise it wouldn't be able to know where you are.

All systems make guesses based on calculations.Dattebayo wrote:Quit being an as$.Urabus GodofTraction wrote:Wrong. Nice attempt at coverup, though.
Maybe you don't understand me correctly. The GPS doesn't actually know where you are, it made a calculation and guessed, right?
The new devices actually can get your specific location, right?
How are you seriously going to try and argue?Dattebayo wrote:There has to be some kind of talk back to the satellite from the GPS, otherwise it wouldn't be able to know where you are.
Yes. I'm shocked no one else picked up on Nala's new "faux hawk" haircut. It's rather disturbing....AZhitman wrote:Ooops - Almost forgot the most important part!

It's not the word "cool" that is at issue, it's his failed attempt in trying to be cool that's facepalm worthy.Urabus GodofTraction wrote:What kids don't use the word cool these days?
