Ok fellow members and memberettes.. :)

Sunday night I was backing out of my driveway looked both ways and coast was clear. Then as i was 90 % out this guy just turns his lights on, hits the accelerator and I just hold my breath and wait for impact!! guy straight hit me!!! Well at first I was just extremely pissed off, I was hot as fish grease!! But then as I got closer to him and his car I could smell the alcohol I'm his breath!!  so I asked him for his liscense and insurance but guess what?!?!?....................................... HE HAD NONE!!
So a couple of mins later this guys son shows up and said he had no insurance, he told me he would take care of it and fix it.

Ok so here's my questions :

I went to two reputable body shops and they said they have to recondition, clear coat, sand, buff and paint. They aren't replacing the bumper at all. One place quoted me $770.73 and second place $761.56. Do you guys think this is pricey?

Another option would be to purchase an aftermarket bumper. I'm leaning towards an ED bumper. But how much is it to paint and match the color for that? Any ideas and help would be appreciated. Anybody know of local shops in southern Cali?

Oh btw here's some iPhone pics of the damage:

760 is pricy, I would go with aftermarket with that price, painting cost anywhere 250-350 or more. But heres the question u ask urself, are you planning on sellin the car anytime soon, when you do sell the car, I recommend put the stock back for higher resale value. If u gonna drive the car for atleast few more years and dont mind the bumpees extreme look. Go with ed :)

Dude...you got nailed by a drunk, unlicensed, uninsured driver. You should have DEMANDED at least $2,500 minimum on the spot to keep your mouth shut and for the repair. If you had called the police he would have been boned and had to pay probably close to double that in legal fees and surcharges, not to mention do a possible short bid.

Oh, go aftermarket.

I know that's true but in the heat of the moment I just didn't think. I think I was being too nice! Oh well... At least he's paying...

incredibl3- thanks I think everybody says aftermarket... So I think I'll just do that, I think I'm going to try to save up for that cf AIT trunk! Ish looks sickkkkkkkkk! :bigthumb:

And I'm definitely saving all my stock parts for better trade in value once I'm ready.

had almost an identical rear end & damage but with an old woman who hit me..

i think my scratches weren't as deep but she dented one of my tailpipes down at an angle..

at a good body shop in northern MD the total ran about $650 for everything if i remember correctly..

good luck and sorry to hear about all that, i know the feeling!!

the price depends on where you live so a little more info is needed. but considering 2 shops pretty much gave you the same price it'll probably run you around there. another option is to do it yourself or hire a private painter if it's just scratches. the drunk driver, you shoulda sent his a** to jail and gotten money from him. however, it is doubtful you would legally get money from him when he wasnt insured, as the money you get from a accident comes from their insurance company, It would be a real PIA to get him to pay.

I know that's not a bad idea hiring a private painter... My dad has a compressor and paint gun but not sure I'll be able to buy/ match the paint color... Oh trust me ill get my money!! Ima get that mula for sure!!

you can buy paint that is matched to your cars color, you just need to make sure you or someone else does it right.

dont mean ensue thread jackage, but my rear got badly hit too (hit while parked); about 1 month ago. the place i went to eventually billed me for $400...$700 is def WAY too much for your damage. if you mention u paying out of pocket, most places will lower the price for you than if your went through insurance.

I bought it to this place called CONTINENTAL on rt. 1&9 in jersey city, nj and they repaired and painted it...long story short: it came out looking brand new for $400

+1 lol. i like the OEM look  !
thing is, if your ever going to sell your car you'll need the OEM bumper for the best price. but get your money from that deadbeat loser.

get one of each...or threaten to take him to court...even buying both he will still come out ahead instead of a DUI and all the BS that goes with one!!!
