Well, got caught goin 41 in a 25 mph zone last night. My first speeding ticket ever. I have a feeling the cop didnt let me off because I have a nice car. If I was blonde, female, and drove a honda civic, I think I would have gotten off. But no, I'm a 20 year old male with a sporty coupe with no excuses. Except for the fact that the road was retarded and the speed limit drops from 45 to 25 in a span of 1000 feet and increases to 45 a quarter mile later. :rant

Damn cops just love those speed traps. Coulda pulled over the car in front of me (a camry) but I was the one that got reamed. :youwon

Now I'm gonna have to cut back on spending to help fund my ticket, court fee and possible insurance rate hike. I'm mad enough to bust a cap. :ak47

IMO fight it, maybe the cop won't show, or it will get desmissed, been there done that. if you fight it it will be lower then if you just go and pay for it...

Ya, dude, totally fight that ****. You say it drops from 45 to 25 to 45 again . . . well, how many signs are there that say 25? How many signs were there that said 25 before he clocked you? Subpoena his daily log and see if he busted anyone else there. If so . .. you could argue the area has bad signing. Why does it drop from 45 to 25 anyways? If the terrain/housing remains the same, you might argue that the speed decrease is unwarranted. That's only the tip of the iceberg, check out http://www.svrider.com/tips/sp....pdf. The current speed limitations imposed on citizens nowadays are bull**** money-making schemes for the state. If everyone goes to court, eventually it will become unprofitable for the state and they will either stop enforcing it so strictly or be forced to raise speed limits to more reasonable standards. The only time I ever come near to obeying the speed limit is under bad weather conditions . . . and I have as yet to be at fault for an accident.

Those tickets are the price you pay for the privelege of driving as fast as you want. Your goal is to keep your points down enough so you don't lose your license.

I got a ticket for not having a plate on my car when I bought it in Chicago a few months ago. I was within ten miles of my place when I got pulled over. Fortunately, it was a non points violation. Cop was just pissed because his donut was stale...

you should definitely plead not guilty and try to fight it but it seems like you knew that the speed limit drops to 25 there. if he lets you go with no points you should take it, don't subpeona any information you'll just piss off the cops and they will screw you more than you can imagine.

Dude . . .at the point that it goes into court you're already "pissing off the cops". Usually the officer doesn't really care, that's why they don't bother show a lot of the time. Now your beef is with the judge, and he's going to be a lot more likely to be on your side if he sees you're taking this seriously and requesting information rather than just hoping on your half chance of the cop not even showing. You should subpoena everything you possibly can in an effort to force prosecution to prove that you have actually done something wrong. Any mitigating factors you show which provide doubt as to your guiltiness is something prosecution will have to disprove.

Yeah, good point. I'm not going to fight it. I admit I was speeding and I should have been paying more attention. I just hoped I would get off the hook, but it didn't happen so I'll just deal with it. Just REALLY hope I can get out of points increase on my insurance. I'll plead guilty, pay the price for speeding, but I do not want points on my insurance and usually if you plead guilty the prosecutor will cut you a deal.
