Well I received my remanufactured Z32 calipers today. They came fully loaded and with all the hardware. I did have a quick question though...it seems they didn't use OEM pads when the calipers were put together. Now I've heard that some aftermarket brake pads have the brake shims "built" into them, but I'm not sure how to tell. If these pads are shimless, then I'm going to order a shim kit from Courtesy Nissan tomorrow morning. Check out the pics and let me know what you think.

Thanks for helping a brake noob

yeah, nice. i HAD a z32 setup for my s13, but decided to just upgrade my all around setup for the 240 calipers and didn't come out that far behind in all truthfullness. i ended up fixing the calipers, painting them, and then selling them back for over 100$ pure profit.

Thanks guys. I'm dropping them off to be powdercoated later this week (a bronze/gold, similar to Top Secret's trademark color) and will attempt the install this weekend

no need for shims.... unless your really specific about brake noise, but if you plan on running any knod of performance pads than the shims are just a waste of money spent elsewhere..

So then I guess you're saying those brake pads I have aren't the type with the shims pre-attatched?

And you're right...Me = really specific about any kind of noise

I'm running advanced auto OE replacement import quiet brake pads without shims and I don't have any noises yet.

There's no shims on those....

May or may not need them. I'd recommend them though.

Thanks. I may just order brand new pads as well. If you look at the 2nd picture posted above, you can see on the clip on the pad to the left is bent on both sides. I was able to bend one side back to original form, but the other side is being a pain in the butt. I'm afraid to force it, because it may snap right off. What purpose do these clips mounted on the brake pads serve?

true but if you are planning on runnign on performancepads like carbotech or axis prepare for brake noise because not because of shims or anything but because of the material they are made of.....

just so you know...

that metal clip on the pads... thats your wear indicator... When it gets low on pad life thats going to rub on the rotor and make that high pitched squealing noise

mine had 2 metal thin clips that i kept when i upgraded the pads. i dont think it will matter. but if you concerned about break squeak be sure to remove your dust sheild. mines always hitin the rotor and squeels and i have to bend it back
