Some of you might know that my Q was suffering from hesitation. I wrote about it at this thread. http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....62727 Well I got the Q back last week. This is what was done. The invoice says, “Engine hest and stalls. Checked for DTCS, none found. Performed IAC test. Found good. Performed power balance test. Found good. Performed mixture ratio test. Failed test for low O2 sensor counts. Sensors are weak causing a lean running condition. Replaced both O2 sensors and performed mixture ratio test again. Passed test. Road tested with consult.” So it was the O2 sensors. Here’s the list of what they did.

1. Replaced spark plugs $190.00 labor $96.80 parts2. Performed fuel induction service $142.50 labor3. BG fuel service kit $36.00 part4. Trans fluid change $66.00 labor $14.00 parts5. oil change $13.62 labor $13.61 parts6. O2 sensors $285.00 labor $151.17each parts7. Complimentary car wash $0.00 labor. It’s the least they can do

At the end of the day I spent $ 1230.65. That’s quite a bit because last month I did the Tokicos form Southwest, $273.00, rear sway kit, front bushings, t-rods, brake pads and rotors, and fuel pump and filter from Joe, $1201.86, and $550.00 for the labor of the suspension and brakes. The fuel pump I did myself. Saved myself about $400.00 in labor that the dealer would have charged me. So these past two months I’ve spent $3255.51 on my Q. Oh, I also spent $50. dollars for the alignment. So how does my Q run now. It runs pretty good. The car handles better and the engine runs smooth. The engine is so quite now and the transmission shifts smoother. I do have two complaints. When you hit big bumps, the rear is a little rattled. I don’t know if it’s the addition of the sway kit or the Tokicos, but I wish it would be a little smoother. The other thing is that after I got the service at the dealer, I thought that the Q would be peppier. I feel that when I’m driving, I really have to crush the peddle to get it to downshift and take off. I wonder if they screwed something up. Dennis has said in the past that there are not many G50 experts at the dealer anymore, or maybe since I’ve been using the 330i for the past month and the G35x loaner that I had as a loaner, maybe I got use to those cars. I have to get use to the Q again. I’m not done yet, the dealer said that I had a couple of other thing that need to be done but I didn’t want to put myself in the poor house in one shot. There’s two power steering hoses and the boots that need to be replaced, my belts are old and they said my upper links, but I don’t notice any squeaks, so they can suck it. I’ll get the belts done the next oil change. What we do for our Qs. It must be love. Sorry I babbled too long. I hope this was informative.

You have to prorate the expenditures instead of thinking only in cash.

The plugs and O2 are 5 year items same with shocks [well at least 4 years]. Brake a year or two.

Letting things go and not putting the money aside every week can make for a big limp sum when you finally get around to it.

After you get everything repaired $150-200 per month on a 95 should do it.Tires and their maintenance plus brakes are the highest cost center per mile driven.

The 1st 100k runs 8-10 cents per mile and the next 100k increases to 12-15 cents per mile. [we won't speak of the period between 200k and 300k]. The more you spend on fluid exchanges EARLY and OFTEN the lower the 2nd 100k cost is.

Yea, I'm not complaining. I haven't done much to the Q in the past year or two. $3000.00 is cheaper than the $50,000.00 plus for a new Q. I tell you, those brakes are like clockwork. 20000 miles and you need to change the pads. Lucky for me, I don't drive too many miles. Tires, I'm on my 3rd set, not counting the snow tires I got this winter. I'm due for tires next spring. That's OK that I spend a little now. My Q is like an old pair of jeans. Comfortble and broken in. That's why I don't like changing my cars that often. I get use to them.

I would suggest that you get those p/s rack boots taken care of ASAP. Unfortunately you'll need another front end alignment, but if you have a warranty on that - and it's at a different place...

Broken boots will allow grit and water to get in to the inner tie-rod ends and cause the rack seals to leak fairly quickly. You're better off with one hour's labor and $20 in parts vs. what that rack would cost you!

If p/s lines are leaking, but not really badly, you can probably hold off on that for a month or two if you keep the fluid topped off.

20,000 miles on pads is the easy part it's the every 6,000-10,000 mile rotor retrueing to maintain perfection as long as possible, that's the killer. The indexing and reindexing to maintain oem tolerances.

Plus the annual system bleed and cleaning and relubeing of slider pins.At least you get 40,000 miles out of the rotors if they are maintained correctly.

Very very few maintain their brakes to these standards.

Just like few rotate and rebalance their tires [correctly] every 90 days with an oil change.

I can almost assure you this is not a mechanical fluid replacement with new fluid, new filter (gasket and one time use retaining screws), nor pan drop and clean.

In previous posts by Q45tech. Might try a search using "road force" or "balance." The discussions are quite extensive and best read in the original posts.

Correctly?Depends on the tire type and brand........obviously Michelin premium types take less maintanence.

Took 2 -235/60/15 Pilots off the rear they were within 7 grams of perfect after 1500 miles since last balance replaced the tires with the new Kumho KH11 both new tires took close to 60 grams [25/35 in/out] on the same wheels.

The important thing is stability that the tires don't rotate on rims or change balance points too often.

I always try to experiment for the forum plus sometimes weird brands work..looking for a soft V rated...but 60 grams of weight is serious. Just because a tire works on the rear of a Q don't assume it is suitable for the front.

Will Give them a week and check again... before demanding replacement........hopefully they'll get better with some exercise.
