So I got my motor rebuilt for the 2nd time. The first time the motor came back, it was done very amateurly. The block had not gotten resurfaced, the hone job was garbage (didn't reach the bottom of the cylinders), freeze plugs weren't replaced and there was still gasket material on the mating surfaces. Also, the block was overall pretty dirty. So today I went and picked it up once again, this time getting everything right. I wish I had pics from after I got it back the first time, but all I have is a before pic from when I first got it....

Before...

And now the eye-candy... the pics don't do it justice. It looks BRAND NEW.

me =

Congratulations and it hope it works out for you man. I know about screwy work by machine shops and the effect it can have on your finshed product. You get tired of tearing engines down because of loss of oil pressure and spent bearings, so you apply the knowledge you've learned over the years and check your own tolerances (stop relying on machinists). My results is my engine is not eating up cranks anymore, but it sure doesn't mind snacking on decked-out evo 8s, STis, and even souped-up G35s . But I'm by know means advertising endurance contests...............

Looks really good and I'm glad this time everything got done the right way instead of the cheap one. When can we expect the engine to leave the kitchen?

Well, I am just waiting on the last of the stuff to arrive from everythingnissan.com That and I need to find some stock CA motor mounts. I really dont want to drop $200 on Nismo ones. I would rather find some stockers and window-weld them.

Yeah, Greenline has the NISMO mounts for $55 each. I wonder if they will sell them to me and ship them? I guess I could email them or something. I HATE working with overseas stuff though.

im sure it doesnt matter, but dont those numbers on the pistons correspond to the cylinders they are supposed to be in? if so, are they out of order? kinda looks it.

anyway, the engine looks awesome. congrats man, hopefully itll run like a top this time. hope mine looks that good when i have to go get it resurfaced (block and head) over spring break.

These arent the original pistons from the motor. I had to mix and match because one of the old ones had the ringland snapped off of it.

Those #s are the pistons grades.

Interesting that the CA18 has 4, maybe more grades of pistons. Most others only have three here in the US...

It also looks like you have some metal shavings inbetween the piston and the top of the ring. Is that just a photo trick?

I think its because the stupid forum software resizes the pics to 700x525 automatically which makes the pictures look funny since they are 800x600. That and it could just be reflections, I dunno.
