Got my money stolen!

This post is a combination of venting and a desperate cry for help! On March 5th of this year I sent a guy named Chateen Latfolla $150 for some interior peices that he had for sale on the Buy/Trade/Sell Forums. I paid him through paypal. Paypal has a buyer complaint form you can fill out if this sort of thing happens to try and get your money back. Unfortunatly it is only for 30days after the transaction date and they are very strict about the 30days. I sent in the form one week to late and they told me they couldn't help me at all. I believe that this person was aware of this rule and drug me along until after that date. After the 30days were past, I have never heard from him again. I've emailed him numerous times and called his phone. I've been told that he's in jail in Chicago and that he won't be out until August, but I don't really believe it. So what would you all do? I contacted a couple of lawyers, but they said that it would cost me more to get the money back than what I paid him. I have NEVER had a transaction go poorly online and had expected a lot more cooperation with paypal. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Let me know what you did.

No, it was a bank account transfer. I thought of that already. I wish I had used a credit card, then I could have done something through them instead.

I couldn't find his NICO Screen Name, but his AIM sn is SikkDikk. He's in Cali and he sucks! I tried all of this right when it happened, but it was still to no avail. Unfortunatly for him I'm pretty persistant and REALLY stubborn. I'm more than content to continue to call everyweek for the next year or so. I've been doing it so far! Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. Maybe I'll get the money back one day.

You could take him to court. But you'd pay more than $150 to get the money back and punish him. I bet he's ripped off more people out there.

Yea, that is basically what my lawyer said. Id spend more money than what I'd lost to get it back. Still ticks me off though. Why the heck to ppl have to be like that? Oh well, he'll get his. People like that always get thiers. I just wish I was there when it happened.

hmm..he Lives in Cali ay.... post up all the info you have on this guy and maybe some of us form NICO can pay him a little visit and see if we can get things str8 for ya! Offcourse violence does not solve these kinds of disputes but we can try to persuade him to either return your money or igve you the things....

Well in all reality, I hope the guy really is in jail and that I'm not being lied to. Then I might be able to get my money back. Unfortunatly, I don't have a whole lot more info. I think I had his addy at some point, and I can probabally get it again, but other than that, I just have to keep my fingers crossed and keep bugging his roomates and family.

I'm not too familiar with paypal but isn't there any way to get his address and stuff like the bank he was wit from paypal if you still have his paypal name? i'm not sure if they'll give you the info or not though.

yea, thats how I would get it. Thats how I got it in the past. I think I wrote it down somewhere though, I just haven't looked for it. I mean, if I really needed to persue it, I could, but it would probabally cost me more than it's worth. And calling every week and sending emails is cheap, so I'll keep doing that.

You said you first got in touch with him through the NICO buy/sell/trade - which thread? It's all still in there - if you can dig it out, we'd at least have his NICO screen name and email address.

Ok, so I got some new info on this whole deal. He supposedly got conviced for manslaughter and will be in jail for the next 2 years. He is supposed to be in the Cook County Jail in Chicago Illinois. I just went to thier website and checked the roster to see if he's on it and he's not. But he also just go the conviction this week, so I doubt the website would be updated yet. I emailed them but don't expect to recieve a response. If he is in fact in jail, then I'll let the money go. Him getting poked by some big fat fag is enough compensation for me. IF HE'S NOT, I don't care how much it costs, I'm getting the legal system involved. I don't like being lied to. I hope for his sake he's in jail.....
