I just bought a 96 J30 with 80K on it. I really love the car and hope to enjoy it a long time. I have learned that the previous owner did not do the 60K service, and base on what I have read from here in the last two days, I have decide to do the following Maintenance:

1. flash Transmission fluid, drop pan, replace filter2. flash coolant fluid3. flash break fluid

Anything else I should be doing when take it to service?

Also, should I take the car to the dealer to do those works, or to an independent shop?

Anyone have any experience with Infiniti of Austin or can recommend a good independent shop here in Austin?

Thanks a million, everyone.

David

P.S. As a side note, I only bought the car for 1 weeks, and our company have just moved to this new building yesterday. Already today, when I got off work, I found a 14-15 inch of scratches on my right front passanger side door. I am so MAD right now that if I found that jerk, I would hit the living s**t out of him.

welcome to NICO. i just started here a few days ago. but i personally think from listening to what everyone is saying. go to an independent shop. it won't cost half as much. sorry for your mishap. my motrcycle got stolen recently tooo. barely 9mths.

there's usually alot of people on here, but i don't know where they all went today.

On of our members has made a webspage based on his personal experience and some pointers from the gurus here, specific about J30 maintenance.

Its really good and is in a recent J30 thread here.We will probably link it once we have our links page up.

Fred..:)

PS: Yes this is easy stuff no need for dealer.Unless u wanna make sure he gets to know you a bit (tip teh service advisor) just in case you evr <really> need them.As for the bodywork consider the dealer 's body shop if he has one or the one he refers you too, again to develop a good relationship.Buit the work can be done by any old shop, I like cultivating relationships with those <almost> shops tire places that have 2 techs that do mechanical work as those PPL really appreciate a customer that doesnt always whine that his tires are already done with "only" 50,ooo miles (tip here too)

Thanks for everyone's advise. I am going to find an independent body shop to do the paint job. As for maintenance, I am still a little confused as what to do:confused: as I want to get it done right the first time.

Palmerwmd, are you talking about carlos DIY website? I found it to be useful but more about DIY projects than maintenance.

Car: should be obvious enough

might be a good time to check out the brakes, any recently bought used car should have the brakes looked over.

might as well check little things like drive belts etc, too.

Any luck on that service work? I am in the same boat just bought a 1995 J30t w/ 90,000 miles and need to do the 90k service big one. Also the timing belt. The manual says do the t-belt at 105k but I have been told not to wait. Any idea?

I do reccomend hooking up with a good independent nissan/infinit/japanese/import shop. They are so much cheaper. But make sure they are honest and reputable. Late
