How much do the tomei and nismo head gaskets run? I wont have a "drag" car, only light mods to my ca18det...someone said to just get another OEM one.

Sorry I couldn't help you dude, but if you were watching the news you would have realized that we had big problems. And besides that my computer nose-dived, so I was out of gas for a minute. Congrats on the new headgasket, but make sure you buy the necessary hardware to accomodate it as well as taking your head to get serviced.

$306...damn, Im not building a "boost machine", lol. I wont need anything too serious. Just something better than stock.

boost_boy, how much are the nismo headgaskets running?

Twiztid_S13, whats your plans for your ca?

And dee, how long would a brand new OEM ca18de headgasket last with moderate mods? Mostly just bolt ons onto a ca18det.

plans are to get it running heh but nothing too big.. just want a reliable engine maybe 13psi boost... still need to get me a lsd and a good clutch.. the one that was in it feels ok for now.. also my gasket and the nismo were about same price.. like 10$'s more but shipping was was like 30+$ ... and Dee i figured you were busy and i knew what was going on that way .. so i just took your advice and went with 1.2mm.. thanks.. well im off to work on it..

you'll be fine with oem headgasket... just make sure its tuned properly. tuning is key with these motors. detionation likes to rear its ugly head if anything gets out of whack (ie. poor intercooler, poor engine cooling, poor air/fuel ratios, etc...) a stock headgasket can take more of a beating than most people are going to put on it. there are countless other ways to spend $300 (exhaust manifold? turbo? intercooler? injectors? engine management?) rather than get an aftermarket headgasket.

I also like the inherit safety factor of a stock headgasket... if something is going to blow, I'd rather it be an easy to replace (and cheap) oem headgasket. Headgasket change can be done in an afternoon... pistons/rods take a full day (maybe more). Also keep in mind you have to have the block and head surfaces machined flat and smooth if you're running a metal headgasket, whereas with a stocker you just have to clean up the mating surfaces

Nice points. Thats all I needed to hear!

But besides checking the actual dealership, I cant find a OEM on online anywhere. I've found a felpro and beck/arnley head gasket...but I'd rather have OEM.

I wouldn't worry about that too much. They'll be fine. Before I decided to get crazy with mine, I bought a stocker from online. It looks just like OEM. Infact, if you're intrested, it could probabally be for sale as I've persued another avenue to seal the head to the block...

got it on and finished.. damn was a long day... everything looked good in it.. the oil didnt even get any water.. but i still changed it and filter.. i didnt machine my head or any of that crap.. all i did was check to see if head was warped and preped it real good.. spend like 3 hours alone cleaning the surfaces and preping it.. took awhile to start up and get timing going good again.. ive got a old timing light.. heh but before i did this install like ive told Dee before my turbo would glow red.. well it doesnt anymore.. but there is play on the turbine shaft.. so next ill need a turbo.. which i figured anyways.. so that is why i decided to go with a metal gasket.. and 300$ could go into alot of things.. i choose the gasket.. some ppl go one route others go another.. im just enjoying it .. but yeah.. i finished..the car HAULS im so pleased with this engine and stuph.. next project is a s14 turbo or equivelent.. and a vlsd or a lsd upgrade.... anyhow.. im out.. late.. gotta rest.. got a cold
