If you guys remember my other thread, I managed to weasel a sample 2 5/8" gauge out of ISSPRO to see what the lighting looked like in the dark (they didnt have any pics). Well, here are the pics.

It looks pretty good during the day time I think:

But the dark is another story... The light makes it look really old-fashoned like... sorta low quality-ish. I know theyre supposed to be nice gauges and everything, but they just dont look good to me in person. I'm kinda glad I didnt go ahead and buy me a set:

It actually looks better in the pic than it does in person. It looks really fully lit and stuff there, but just imagine it kinda ligher color, like that orangey incandacent light type look...

its not really the brightness that bothers me... its that it looks sorta like a lampshade... like that orangish color. Its not pure white like it looks like in the pic, its like... dingy orange... lampshade really is the best I can describe it

well Ive never seen it in person, but I always thought the autometer ultra-lite gauges looked pretty decent in the dark. Slo_S13 has a vid on his websit where you can see the gauges, and theyre lit up all around... they look pretty nice compared to this..

Faint orange is better on your eyes at night anyway...

I think they made the gauge to look "old school" on purpose, it looks like the old side-pod gauges on my 280ZX. I like it.

I like it. It does have a certain vintage look to it that I find appealing. How much does one of those things cost, anyway?

got this one for free, but they're pretty much on a par with similar autometer gauges... like $40 and $50 bucks for the mechanicals, $100 or so for the electricals.. You can get em on http://www.egauges.com

Keep in mind though that these pics DONT really reflect what it looks like in real life... like I said there is NO white on the gauge, and everything is lit up evenly with this transparent (?) ish orange color... Just think about what something would look like lit up by a regular clear incandescent bulb... like a lamp-- thats this.

This is the best picture of a night-time Ultra-Lite that I can find... It looks a LOT better than the ISSPRO I think, but then again I like the cobalts so much better still.... too bad cobalts are so damn expensive...

those are both differant types of lighting in the guages . .

and if the lightings bad and you like the gauge why not goto a stereo shop or electronics store and buy some diff bulbs or put some LEDs in there for any color light.

Are the lights in the Autometer LEDs? I realise its different cause it shines from the side, but the light seems to be so much brighter and clearer in the Ultra-Lites compared to this one.

It's not the orange COLOR that bothers me with these gagues, its the quality of the light that gets through. lol I dont know how to explain it anymore... maybe I can send this thing to someone who needs it and THEY can describe it.

yeah I stopped hosting them, needed the space. IM me if you want to see them again, Ill give the gauge away for just shipping cost or whatever.

The needle lit up sorta... just the the light that was behind it. You wouldnt have a problem READING the thing, it just doesnt look very good, thats all.
