just wanted to let everyone know that i got my cams installed properly finally after two days. it feels a little bit better than stock until 4200 then it pulls quite agressively. does anyone else have any feed back for me on the JWT cams, did you have to re-tune the ECU to get the most out of the cams or anything?

You DO NOT have to retune a MAF based engine management system for bolt-ons that change the airflow - The increased flow will be detected by the MAF.

But you would probably benefit from a little more timing - Is yours set at stock??? If so, I'd bump it to 22-23 degrees BTDC...

The JWT ECU will give you about 12HP over the stock ECU, and it does it over most of the curve. If you have a S14 with the lower rev limiter, the ECU will also raise the rev limit.

Here's dyno charts - before and after JWT ecu (both with cams):

Ahhhh...jam149 - I was under the impression he already had the JWT ECU and added cams. After reading his post again I realize he was asking a different question...

So yes - The ECU would be best to have if you don't have a JWT re-tune already. Once you have the N/A upgrade, you will not need to change it if you add more bolt-ons (which was my original point).

And the ECU really does make the car more lively - Especially with those cams - You need the extra revs to really enjoy them.

Sorry if my 1st reply was confusing...

hey Shoin, what are the specs for your cams. I'm looking to do the same thing you are. Lift, duration, what price you paid... thanks

JWT doesn't publish their specs, but I believe they are 256/256 duration with similar-to-stock lift.

That's what TY in AZ quoted as the specs...and he's in good with the JWT guys.

actually the specs that they give you are measured at .050 and they are something like .390 lift and 275 duration, if i remember right. also if i get the JWT ecu wont i have to re tune it if i add a pulley and port/polish the head, and bump the compression?

my turbo project will be completed in the next month and a half. This is a fully built motor with a t3/t04e 60 trim stage 5 wheel .63 ar.I am going to dyno with stock cams first. I have the Jim Wolf cams in my Naturally Aspirated setup right now.So the plan for me is for dyno with stock cams at 15 psi or so and then dyno with Jim Wolf cams at the same psi.Im just curious to see the results since I've seen the Jim Wolf cams for KA's make almost 10 hp nat. asp.

Yeah, TY said the Ben over at JWT kept calling them 276/276 cams when they are actually 256/256. I dunno, just forwarding second hand info...

But I think that a 276 cam in a 240 wouldn't make power 'til 5500, so I'm inclined to believe that it's a 256 combo...

No. You could get it re-tuned on a dyno at a shop that could burn you a new chip - i.e. Sunbelt in GA, but again - They can't do anything more for you in N/A trim other than the standard upgrade. They already give you plenty of timing, the rev limiter is up where it should be (any higher and you're KA will come apart in a short while), and the speed limiter is removed...also the tip in retard is gone, and the fuel leaned out.

Remember, a MAF based system will pick up increases in airflow and compensate...not like Honda where you have to bump fuel pressure or burn a new chip or whatever.

I'm not saying there's not power to be found, but JWT cannot give you any more than what they send out to any N/A guy without a custom tune, and that would take dyno time and a shop that could write a new ROM chop for you...
