I lost my key to my truck so I had a locksmith come out and remake me a master key to start and unlock my truck. Got the key made but now when trying to program the key to the truck, it saying ecu is disconnected. I have no issues with my truck what so ever, no codes no nothing. Could I get some insight on to what my problem may be? Could it be that the locksmith programmed the wrong type of chip or what? Please help y'all because I really would like to get my truck off this business parking lot. Thanks in advance.

It's the locksmith's problem.

And you only got ONE key made?

Most Nissan's have to be taken to the dealer to have the key programmed. I had a security company cut me a key last week and had the same issue. Fortunately I work for a dealer group and we have a Nissan store so I was able to get it done for cheap.

So you're saying it can't be done by a locksmith?

Honestly, these things are hit and miss, its hard for them to be 100% sure it'll work, I got quite a run-around a few years ago.

How much did they charge for programming?

Everything was $155. Well if its it and miss, then they need have a disclaimer saying so. Or exclude certain vehicles that they can't do.

A transponder key CAN be programmed by (insured/licensed/bonded) locksmiths.

I lost my key last week for my 01 QX4 and a mobile locksmith came and cut a new key and programmed it with a portable computer. The programming process took maybe 10 minutes. He had to hook up a battery pack to the battery for a constant 12V.

Cost was $175 but I had a $100 credit from AAA so $75.

So if you got that done from a locksmith, then why is it saying ecu disconnected? Can someone explain that for me?

I'm not sure but before the guy programmed mine he said he may have to call another associate with a different programmer if it couldn't link up...
