Hey guys, yesterday I was heading down to Tuscaloosa. 5 min away from the Univ. of Alabama a Suburban slammed into the back of me. Its not too terribly bad but its gonna need alot of work but I'm pretty sure its fixable, I'll need a new bumper, and new light assembly for the back, tail-lights and the middle part, along with some straightening out. I'm in tuscaloosa right now, but I'm gonna try to find someone with digital camera tomorrow and get some pictures up for yall.

: (

The 240 is unibody and doesn't respond well to rear end collisions. The damage may not look extensive but even if you get it straightened it will never drive the same again. : ( My advice is to strip what you want and then have the insurance company junk it and get yourself a new one. Make sure you press the high quality condition of your car and the rarity for bonus money because its not like you can go out and pick one up at the local dime a dozen shady car dealer. See ya, hopefully its not that bad and it all works out, but I know a lot of guys who've had rear end collisions and it just isn't the same, minor damage always seems to be way, way worse on 240s... Good luck!!!!

Go to the absolutly BEST body shop in town, quizz them repeatedly whethr they will be able to make evertything line up perfect and re-establish perfect alignment.

If they say no sweat, then you can probably go ahead and have it fixed but if they seem unsure, then follow daunts advice.

Of course neither of us have seen the damage so this may be idle speculation..

Fred...:)

:withstup :withstup both of them.

it sucks but this is what we pay insurance for. they get to stick it to us every year so now we get to collect child support.I say even IF they can get it straight again, le tthe insurace get u a new ride. Prolly even get the JDM tail llights if u like that kinda stuff.

that's one of the reasons I hate Stupid Ugly Vehicles. (sp?) Anything they hit is screwed.

I was working on getting some parts for a car and I found a parts car on ebay. The guy had been hit from behind...not really bad at all..didn't even bust his tail lights. But it had bent the rear tire well in, ..and that isn't an easy part to replace..so insurance claimed it totaled...just strip your parts...-

It's true, very true.... It may not look like much, but many 240's become totalled when involved in rear end collision. Plus, you could easily get your money back by parting it out

I was a guy that hit me, about 45 years old, I'd say he was only going about 10mph, so the damage doesn't seem too bad, I don't think it bent the spare tire well, and the car still drives just the same. It didn't even bust the tail-lights but it pushed them in a little bit. The first thing the guy said to me was that he didn't want to claim it on his insurance, so the first thing I did was get his tag #. ;) He called my parents, I'm gonna get an estimate on Monday and he is gonna have all the money to us by Wednesday or we're calling his insurance.

That might be the worst thing you could do is go outside of his insurance. If something goes wrong and its not fixed to your satisfaction, he could just say "tuff" and not pay anymore. He may not want to go through his insurance, but it was HIS FAULT and you have the RIGHT to go through his insurance.

Thats true, I was actually surprised my parents said ok, cause they are usually smart about stuff like that, I haven't really go to talk to them yet, so I'll have a little talk with them when I get home from U of A, plus I wanted to get my front bumper repainted anyway and I might need to use insurance to do that. I'll talk to them and let yall know what happens.

Well as far as going through insurance, its no big deal right now...the big question is did you get a police report?? That is the end all be all, because even if you agreed, but you realize you wanna go through insurance, there is nothing he can do...but if you have no police report then you are just screwed. ALWAYS get a police report, even when its your fault. With no report he can simply deny everything.

ALWAYS GET A POLICE REPORT. (it needs to be repeated)

The First thing I did was call 911 to get a police report and got his tag number, the FIRST thing. :)

hehe.. that's how I got my 240.. Somone hit my truck and I got 6500 for it. It was not worth nearly that (1997 Nissan with broken trans and 174k miles). I love my 240 even though it's nothing but problems right now..argg

Well as long as you have a police report then you are straight, cause if he in any way backs out of paying you, then you just claim it, simple as that. Now you gotta go get a high *** estimate

How do you think I should do it, just get them to overprice the estimate so I can pocket the money? or take it to the most expensive place I can find for the estimate and have the work done somewhere else for cheaper? I just want to have everything perfect on my car though too. I'd say its about 2-2.5g's worth of damage.

Yeah, by me there is a Saab dealer that does body work. My insurance company told my brother to take it there. He got an estimate for 900 bucks. We then copped some JDM headlights (91 Integra) and replaced them. That was all that needed to be done. My brother kept like 650 for himself. They cut the check to him though.

Just take it to a place that you know is expensive. You are not required by law (in my state anyway) to get more than one estimate. So just get a high one, send it to their insurance company.

I got quotes today, most were around $2550, but the best place I went, Rod's Custom Body Shop wanted $3150, so maybe I'll send the insurance that estimate.

Yeah, it doesnt' even really look damged in that pic, I guess the worst part about it is the floor pan where the spare tire goes is crinkled a little bit and they have to take off the back body panel to get to it to striaghten it out.
