Hello all-

I am the owner of a 92 SE coupe with 93K miles. I have been reading the forum since the spring but rarely post.

Today I was driving and got hit by a lady that was pulling out of a street parking spot. I was hit in the passenger rear quarter panel. The cops were called and it was deemed her fault because of failure to yield.

The damage amounts to this. There is a scrape behind the wheel which continues along the top of the wheel until it gets to the area between the wheel and the door. This area is entirely smashed in. Two areas (2" x 3") have entire chunks missing and another area of the same size has all the paint missing. Also, the entire area is one large dent. The passenger side door also has a scrape and may have a dent. I would have liked to post pics but it is dark out so I will tomorrow.

My question is for anyone that has also been in an accident as to what their damage estimates came out to be. I cannot get estimates for a few days as I have to get contacted by her insurance. I did a search of the forums and found people with a lot less damage with 2-3k estimates. I dont have a lot of money into my car so Im not real concerned with it being totalled other than the annoyance of having to get a new car. In fact, if I am going to have any problems down the road (alignment, etc) I would rather it be deemed totalled.

Also, if you have any advice as to how to deal with insurance that would be great. Is there anything else I should get checked out other than the body work? This is my first car crash. Nothing like destroying a clean record. Feel free to post, email, or talk to me on aol.

Thanks for any help,Micah[email protected]aol: burningskulls

Why can't you get an estimate? Estimates are free. Its her fault, so they have to pay for your work. If you've already notified your insurance ask them where in your area you can go to get an estimate. Try to go to a dealer because they seem to have the highest prices. Then find some other place that will do it for cheaper. Also a dealership will check the whole car out. If not you gotta take it to a mechanic and a body guy.

I don't think anyone can give you a real answer on the estimate, especially without pictures. Plus I don't think anyone on here does body work.

My driver side 1/4 panel was hit by a guy in a stolen SUV. It destroyed the 1/4 panel, and knicked the driver's door pretty good. The total damage came to a csot of $1700. Since it was a stolen SUV that hit me, and he ran and got away :(, I thought I was screwed. But the uninsured motorist covered it, so all I had to do was pay a deductible.

If you got the lady's insurance information, take that and the police report to the insurance office and let them handle it, but be sure YOU PICK the body shop, you are allowed to pick your own body shop and I highly recommend you do it, and besure to get a nice rental car :), if you cant drive the rental, let your parents use it while you drive their car.

After all this the only problems I had, was my driver side door does not line up all the way, where the window meets the body there is a small gap.
