Just got my head back from the machine shop this morning. Again, this was a retake since the original machine shop did a real crappy job. So I sent it in for a thorough cleaning and a 3-angle valve job. They also disassembled my intake manifold, cleaned the gasket material, and cleaned the manifold inside and out.

Pics!

So now the cleanliness of the block is matched by the head! Assembly should start this weekend!

Lookin good c-rad. I really wanted to take my head into a machine shop, but unfortuneately around here there are no reputable good ones except for one. And the waiting list to get into that shop is quite hefty.

Are you still on stock cams and valvetrain?

I posted the cost. That included resurfacing and cleaning of all the gasket mating surfaces on the head and the intake manifold.

chris, what did your block cleaning run you again? where was this place... I have a block and head we disassembled tonight that needs to be cleaned up. Did they put the crank and main bearings all together for you as well (new oil pump right?)

I paid $162 for the block work. That included tearing it down, cleaning everything, honing the cylinders, decking it, installing new freeze plugs and reassembly.

I got it done at Fred's Fastrac Machine Shop here in the Daytona area. I actually think it's in Holly Hill (just north of Daytona).

And yes, I have a brand new oil pump sitting here waiting to go on

another question chris. did they do the valve stem seals while it was there? and back to your bottom end, did you buy the rod/main bearings and piston rings from them after they measured it all out, or how did you know what sizes to get? They did put the crank and main bearings, and new rings/rod bearings in right? Or did you do that when you got the bare block home?

New valve stem seals were installed. Bottom end was done by that guy in Palatka who did a less than optimal job. But the second shop (Fred's) checked all the clearances and said that was the only thing he did right. Basically Fred's tore the whole motor down to the bare block and inspected everything and put it back together. So its the same amount of labor as if you were putting new bearings in by them in the first place.
