This christmas I got a little over $100 in certificates and my motor has about 55K miles on it.

Everything checks out OK and the motor generally has no real wear on it, but I will not start this motor up without at least new main and rod bearings. The question is: Shall I get regular stock size, or should I get something else? The websites I see offer undersize (?) bearings and I had no idea they run like that. Given my experience with pistons I believed that oversize was more common... I am sure I am missing something more about this so I come begging, PLEASE explain the whole deal to me!!!

Also, what is your preferred brand (other than OEM)?

i used federal mogul, very nicely machined/whatever, looked aerospace quality

have some clevite 77's mains that are over(under)sized, got them on ebay for cheap (and seller didn't list they weren't for stock size) look like crap, wouldn't use them..

shouldn't need to over(under)size anything unless your crank is ****ed up

I guess undersized means the inner radius of each bearing half is smaller then... good info!

Anybody else have recommendations? I dont see federal magul on the list, though there are some DET specific bearings around. I know they arent different in any way size-wise, but maybe the quality is different somehow.

I used stock nissan bearings. They cost more than the Clevite ones though.
