Got fuel. got air, got spark still no start...

Hey guys, i'm in need of a little assist here. My s13 has been sitting for a over a year (in pieces after a timing chain replacement) and i FINALLY found some time to assemble it again. Anyway after getting it together, testing for spark (coil, dist, plugs, fuses), fuel (pump's working n injectors r fairly new) i'm about stumped. It cranks but refuses to start, and im pretty sure the firing order is correct. Havent checked my CAS yet but all sensors WERE working. Any ideas would be helpful. Just tryn 2 get the ka(e) running for transport til im ready 4 swap. Thanks

Sorry, but no hint of a start. Just a puff from the compression stroke i guess? Im assuming its timing related because their isnt a hint of it turning over, all starter. I'm 90% certain everything remained in place when I replaced the chain. I even clocked the dist a bit and gave it a few cranks as well. Havent checkd my ecu yet either but like I said all was working.

Will it try to start/run if you use starting fluid? If so you most likely have very bad fuel. Either way dump your fuel if posable and troubleshoot with good fuel.

check to make shure your grounded out in all the rite places..and do a double check on the fuses..you might have over looked sumpin...make a list of every thing you check..dont assume its good till you phisicly and vissually check it...post back when you make your list.

yea, ive checkd all the fuses and relays and all seem fine. My next concern is with fuel but like i said the pumps good maybe bad gas so i'll drain n replace. Ive read somewhere that this is a common prob with people reassembling their ka's after a timing chain change. Hopefully thats not my issue but its a possibility.

Is the a ka24E? Ive done a few timing chain and guide fixes on sohc and if you take the oil pump out to do the fix you may have it in wrong, if so it will throw off your distributor and spark big time. Ive done that a few times also....... Usually i set at TDC and take out the distributor and take a pic of the location of the oil pump before removal of the front cover, this way if the keyway dosent line up when i install the oil pump i know before i put the distributor back in. But this info is for SOHC only. GOOD LUCK!

Have you checked for compression in all cylinders? Have seen rings stick on these motors. Check for major vacuum leaks too.

if your almost certain your timing is on, pull the vacuum off the fuel pressure regulator and then try to start it. This similar situation happened to a good friend of mine just this week after his car sat for only 6 weeks. If it starts then your regulator is stuck in a open loop just allowing gas to flow in the rail and through the return line back into the tank. Therefore you would need a new regulator.

if you HAVE fuelif you HAVE airif you HAVE sparkand your compression is 180 +/- 12psi

then your timing is off. those are the only things an engine needs to start and run. make sure all of your timing marks [cam/s, crank, etc] if everything is GO, then you have Gremlins.

this seems to be a timing issue man..remember that the fuel has to be ignited before top dead center of the compretion stroke...i start my crap at 10 degrees before TDC..with dizzy in the center position..this gives you room to play a bit...to re-adjust timing..remove the sparkplug from the #1 cylinder and place some tishue or cotton ball in the spark plug area..bump the engine over..not crank..till the ball fly's out..thats the compretion stroke close to tdc..adjust from there for 10 degree's..then make a mark on your dizzy where the rotor hits the #1. spark contact...slide in your dizzy making shure that the rotor ends up on your mark...this will work!...once everything is in place and set to 10btdc..it should fire rit up.

post back when ya do this and dont skip a step..good luck.

get a timing light an set your dizzy [distributor] to 20[degrees] before top dead center [BTDC] on your 1st cyl.
