i have a 2002 nissan pathfinder.
this code keeps popping up in my pathfinder. P0301 { Number 1 Cylinder Misfire Detected }
the pathfinder drives regular but it keeps coming up.
i want to replace the spark plug and the boot before i go and buy a new coil pack.
my questions are ....

-which is cylinder 1 ? i think its the drivers side closest to the firewall ?
-can i switch the coil pack from cylinder 1 to another cylinder without any issues ?
i believe that for 2001 pathfinders coil pack 1 is diffrent than the rest , not too sure though :wtf2:

Cyl. 1 is passenger side front. Odds on passenger side, evens on driver's side. Cyl. 6 is driver's side closest to firewall.

I believe if you have the aluminum valve covers, then the Cyl. 1 coil pack is different. The plastic valve covers appear to all use the same coil.

If you haven't already, also take a look at the FSM regarding troubleshooting steps.

It looks like they changed whether the #1 is the same as the others mid-2002, so you'll have to go look to be sure :chuckle: If it looks the same, swap away!

Oh, and if/when you get a replacement, I recommend getting a Hitachi at Amazon. Hitachi is OEM and Amazon has a price that beats the dealer price many times over.

According to Hitachi's parts catalog (page 29), the IGC0006 is the only ignition coil they have for the 2002, which means they're counting on you having plastic valve covers and 6 identical coils.

Have you confirmed which setup your vehicle has? If your #1 coil is different than the others, then you're probably going to want 1 × IGC0023 and 5 × IGC0027.

And to answer your question, if your #1 is different from the others, it will have the connector on the top, like so.

and the others will have the connector on the side. They will also have it on the side if all 6 are the same.

Hope that helps!

I've got an 02 as well and also have the same code coming up. Doing a little research online led me to some info about how it may be a catalytic converter issue leading the computer to believe it's a misfire issue. I haven't done any work on it yet because I'm not having any real problems but I'll be replacing most of the exhaust system, plugs, and coil packs soon anyways.

all of the oem coil packs look exactly the same. is this common in 2002's ?/
did they start phasing out coil pack cyl 1 in 2002 ???
found my issue. its the Spark Plug Tube Oil Seal on cyl 1.
i saw the oil in the spark plug tube. its not completely drenched but it will be soon
 damn , i have to remove the valve cover again
