Anyways guys I just recently ran my injector wires through the intake runners and thought why not make a cool clear cover, then I got the bright Idea to just paint the inside of it so it would be a solid color. (black in this case cause thats all I had laying around tonight...I may go back and take that off and just do a tint on it like you do your tail lights (smoked)....anyways let me know what you guys think of it..start to finish about 3-4 hours on this and that was rushing the paint to dry with a heat gun...lol on with the pics....

Not sure it took along time with a good heat gun to bend it, its pretty thick stuff actually, truth be known this was just to see if I liked it, more than likely I will make it out of aluminum..(aka a street sign) I made a templet when I did this one...and I will let you know if it melts tomorrow..gonna drive with it on...and top of intake dont get that hot...

I give you credit for being creative and actually doing it. Its just not my cup of tea. I would have made a cover for the air filter so that it doesn't draw in the heat from the header. Than make a cover to cover the intake mani.

I just don't see a point to do this. You run your injectors to hide it but then you put a cover to cover them. why?

yeah i know thats why i wanted to leave it clear, so it would show the injectors. Like I said if it holds up to the heat I will more than likely do the next one smoked. and as far as the intake goes its extended into the lower bumper well away from the heat.. only good thing I can think about it being painted or aluminum is it will be impossable to see the NOS lines which are ported on the inside curve of each intake runner. so that would be a plus I guess..

+1 on the valve cover..and its actually a kinda cool idea. clear/smoked would look better though and it kinda gives the engine a "look but dont touch" feeling. approve

its not bad actually. It would look better with other ascents around the engine bay. Smoked would look great too. I think it looks good tho

Thanks for the positive comments guys, as far as the black color goes, like I said it was all I had laying around, I kinda just rushed this one out to see how it would look and if it will hold up. the more I think about it, Im gonna most likely do the smoked version next. unless I find some neon translucent stuff..lol i kid....

it might bang on your strut brace because of the motor rocking side to side. especially on the studs. i really don't understand the point of this. the intake runners create a symmetrical balance view of the motor complimenting the exhaust manifold.

boy this is the closest thing to art a car will ever see lol. a non functioning part built only for its looks.

Do you attempt to acquire higher intake temperatures with this part? hehehe

Thats pretty neat. I like the end result. It does seem like something that someone in a car show could benefit from.

I would not have come up with this. Good job let us know if you make any other designs.

So, lets see you made a sheild to keep the heat into the manifold??? If that is plexi, it will melt...

Well as stated before its fairly thick, and it has not melted at all. and as far as the heat issue, I have noticed no adverse effects from it. hell maybe I will heat wrap my intake now since you cant see the runners really to keep all the heat out..but I really dont feel its necessary to do so....As I stated in the begining this was more about being different than anything else. and I think I have done that...

And thanks for all the great comments, and as far as other designs, I have a few..lol but I need to get bored again...

intake manifold does not get that hot, if it does then you have other issues. and i doubt that it will heat up the intake runners any more than having a hood on your car.

Another well made point.

Not saying that it isnt a cool idea, just not very well thought out. Hence the bored part I guess. Good luck.

One of the advantages of the aluminum intake manifold is so that it disipates heat very well. On any car I have ever owned the intake manifold tends to get warm, and warm aluminum pipes that flow the engine into your engine, robs your engine of HP. Were not talking about 300 hp but maybe 1 or 2. What that cover is doing is essentially storing the heat under a smaller tighter space, where the hood isnt rapped around the mani storing the heat under it. On a long drive or under extended spirited driving I see this piece melting, probably not to the point that it will melt to the manifold, but, may melt around the edges where the hot air is trying to escape.

Speaking of engine covers. Has anyone noticed? On new cars, engines are covered right? But, everything's covered except engine on TL. I thought it was cool. Maybe you should try it.

Haha. I always wanted to make a full engine cover that covers everything but the engine.I figured it would get my engine bay looking alittle fuller. The CA18 isnt the best engine to show off when the car next has an RB and everyone else at meets is rocking Gs or Evos and we share the same parking lot as the Mustang boys.Small engines can really hurt ones self esteem
