Got Beat By A Relative….350Z & Beat A Stranger New Acura TL

I raced a 350Z from the stop light to 60mph the other night. We both went at it from a 5mph roll giving each other thumbs up before the light turned green. I had him until 40mph with his front bumper with my passenger side door with him getting a very slight jump on me and then all of a sudden a can of whoop a$$ came over me and he pulled on me very hard till 60mph with me looking at his a$$ at 60mph. He was a cool street friendly racer indeed. I wish we had more room to do a 0-100mph run but it was not safe as the police substation was another 30 yards down the road and I did not want to make an officer overly excited.

I also raced a new Acura TL on the highway from about 70mph to 100mph. I pulled on him pretty good, but not as good as I have done in the past at those speeds against other cars. I pulled on a new 530i much harder several months ago than the Acura TL the other night.

This is with my 4.08 installed as well. Damnn….these newer cars and 10+ years of technology have really caught up to our Q's.

So you put the 4.08 back in. How do you like it compared to the stock rear end?

the 4.08 is nice...the car is much faster from 0-78mph and 0-125mph as my shift points of 95mph and 135mph have moved with the different gearing. The car is slower from 78-95mph due to being locked in 3rd gear but it is still very fast around town and gets rid of the dead spot around 35mph when you can't get the tranny to downshift into 1st gear. Around town and city driving are a blast.....that is until the damn 350Z beat me the other night. I would have thought it would have been closer in distance, but it was not. The extra torque and less effort to go faster is nice as well when you need to give it a little more gas to move around traffic while cruising on the highway.

Gas mileage does suck though as I noticed I am not around 13mpg versus 18mpg as before but I have been hammering it a lot lately having some fun with the rearend and trying to burn up my rear tires quicker so I can downsize to a lighter and smaller tire that does not rub the rear fenders so easily so I can go autocrossing also.

I am very lucky but I have always got 18~22mpg (360+miles on a full tank of gas) on the freeway regularly when I had the 15" BBS wheels.

Now with a combination of the much heavier wheels and now the 4.08 I am looking around 13mpg (250 miles on full tank of gas) on average between freeway and city driving.

The thing with the 4.08 is that it holds the rpms up higher even when you car coming to a stop or just coasting down to a slower speed. As soon as I get my yellow box speedo calibration thing figured out I will post my new gas mileage as my speedo and mileage counter will be correct then.

As soon as I get it all running correctly (speedo error) I will post some new videos of the speedo and how the car reacts with th 4.08.

Rob, sounds like your car is thinking like my Z... slurp it up, piss it out... he won't care she says .

Glad to hear she's running well for you now Rob!

hmmm, letme guess- your 1-2 shift now happens at ~42mph?was he a 5AT or 6MT? Fred would know, i think 6MT's are already in 3rd @60, unless he's modded.0-120 you would have owned him.

I know it would have been dead even for the 0~100mph sprint and from 0-125mph I should have definitely taken him. He had a 6 speed car as I saw him shifting. Eitherway....my car right now is not even running today so any car can practically beat me. Need a new MAF (I think).
