I got it DIRT CHEAP!!

There is no shaft play what so ever and everything seems to be in order. The only problem and the reason why it was so cheap is because the exhaust housing is cracked at the wastegate. I have a few options I believe. Since the turbo still runs just fine I figure I can prolly put some JB Weld and fix it that way.

OR

I have a T25 from a CA. Can I swap exhaust housings but modify the T25 to fit on the T28?

Also, would you recommend a rebuild? If so, can I buy any kits off the net besides eBay?

Rafic, Im looking in your direction :P

Thanks Guys!

JB weld would melt off within the first 20min of running the car. Those bottom mount T-28's glow red at like 900degrees after a good run. If you’re going to be messing with fixing turbo related stuff may I suggest buying a welder? I bought one last month, already paid for itself. Also, the thing that is most important for that turbo to run properly is to make sure that the exhaust air going into it has no obstructions or leaks. Exhaust coming out of a turbo needs only to be a free flowing as possible, who cares if there is a bit of a leak from the wastegate on (it may actually help things).

If it is a minor crack, I would say don't worry about it, lots of turbos tend to crack on the exhaust side due to the amount of heat that it reachs.

Cheers,

It's cracked bad enough that it leaks. That's why the guy sold me this turbo. So I should just ignore it for now?

T25 turbine housing should work just fine. It still uses the same exhaust wheel and housing. Take it apart and find out!

I'll definatly take a look into that c-rad

also, this is a quote from the guy I bought it from "it does need a rebuild, bearings and it cracked due to a malfunctioning wastegate actuator which stayed open, which caused the turbo to overspin"

So if anyone can point me in the right direction of where I can buy a t28 rebuilt kit that would be great

If this is a BB T28, it can't be rebuilt. As for the exhaust housing, you've got two options. You can use the one from your CA T25. The problem (may NOT be a problem) is that it's a .48 housing and you're going to loose top end power and may not be able to run much more thatn 14psi effecient.

The other option is to try and find another exhaust housing from a T28 with a .64 housing. I am currently contemplating toying with different exhaust housings on my T28 to see the effects (dyno's before and after). AFAIK, nobody on this forum has put a .48 turbine housing on a T28. I'm sure it would bolt up, but I think you'll have some pretty serious boost creep problems and had better plan on porting out the internal wastegate and maybe even having a larger flapper made at a machine shop or something.
