My friend just picked up a 2000 Xterra with 70,000 miles for $13,500.

Can anyone give me any hints on maintenance problems or things to look for?

thx

no major incedents on this vehicle yet. make sure 60k service was done. If its a 3.3l it gets a t-belt at 105k. known incedents on the 3.3l is a coolant leak from where the upper rad hose pipe bolts to the intake manifold. dont get water on the 4 o2 sensor connectrs mounted on the right hand valve cover. It could cause it to throw false o2 codes. certain factory wheels for the 2000 xterra had a recall but it was limited. there was a recall on the drivers side air bag connector make sure that was done. there was also a recall on the fuel cut valve in the fuel tank. there are a couple other small recalls on the xterra model but cant remember them. best way to check for applicable recalls is go to your local nissan dealer and have them run your vin on their DCS. other then that they are pretty rugged reliable vehicles.

2000 Frontier/Xterra Automatic Transmission Shift Cable Lock Plate Recall.

ABS sensor recall as well. Not sure if it was for the 2000's or 2001's

Oh yea the shift plate recall. yea you wanna get that if it hasent been done. Cause if you dont you could be standing next to it performing an idle adjustment per the fsm and during the 2000 to 3000 RPM reving portion of the procedure it could accidently drop into drive and launch forward slamming into a bench and doing 5000 dollars damage to a customers vehicle. you would find yourself standing there with a look of confusion on your face wondering why you are no longer looking in the engine compartment but instead looking into the interior of the car.
