alright i've got a 89 240sx with a 91 ka24de engine in it and am lookin for more ponies, so the obvious choice would be a turbo. except i know jack about turbos. so maybe someone out there can play big brother and either slap me or explain to me what i would need. i know i need a exhaust manifold, intake/intercooler, downpipe and turbo right? what kind and where can i get those, what do you reccomend. id like to do this whole thing without messing with the internals? can it be done? at low boost. any other things id need to get or whatnot, do they sell kits. just any turbo information would be appreciated, im sorry if there is already a thread out there explaing turbo systems to jags like me but id like to kno what im up against for parts and prices/ tricks and helpful hints. thanks what size turbo and where did u get urs would help.

Well the first thing to do is search these forums for your questions...

Exhaust Manifold - I have the etd manifold. There seems to be a wait on them, so look around, realnissan, ssautochrome, a couple other people are making some. Search for those...

Turbo - The consenus seems to be a T3/TO4E 50 trim .63 A/R Cheap turbos has one http://store.yahoo.com/cheaptu....html for 589.00

Injectors - If your looking for low boost to start out on, pick up some used sr 370cc(purple top) injectors used. Can be found anywhere from 30-100 bucks...

Piping - Most people fab there own, or greddy has a kit for s14(intercooler & piping) you could make fir on a s13.

Downpipe - fab your own

Engine management - theres big discussions going on about this, search around for this. Anything from piggbacking safc, emanage, to ecu rre-write by jwt or full standalone from aem, or other standalone units...

Most importantly read everything here, and on zilvia, and freshalloy. Ka-t is somewhat new, and you can learn from people expierences/mistakes...

Yup, its a TON of money. ...As in, way more money than you think its gonna be when you start.

Another thing you should do is get and read the book written by Corky Bell called "Maximum Boost: Designing and Installing Turbocharger Systems."

Good luck!

I'd love to go KA-T too, since the lure of a 2.4 liter turbocharged engine in a relatively light RWD platform is just too strong.

I've been reading these forums and researching for ages. The only thing I find really tough to decide on is the manifold. I can't see any real stand-out winner as far as price and durability.

I'm also personally leaning towards a JWT ECU. Would like to get one used for an NA application and then get it reprogrammed for turbo eventually. That certainly seems like a safe choice along with the ubiquitous Walbro fuel pump and 370cc injectors.

Anyway, I won't do anything other than little bolt ons until the S13 is no longer my daily driver (hopefully next fall, new car).

I hear you there, I'm in the same exact position. It's pretty hard to decide on a manifold. I'm hoping that the SSAutochrome one iwth some dremel work and a flex section on the exhaust will be a good option. The JGS log manifold seems like a good cheap option if you know someone who can weld well and you don't lust for an equal length mani.

So you want to build a turbo kit too, good deal. I have the list for you that I'm currently building my KA-T project with, it'll give you a good foundation though I've made some modifications, you can find it here

and hey, if you want, I have a dsm intercooler I can sell you too. Have fun, good luck, I hope you have some patience though, because this stuff isnt easy.

I pieced mine together because I didn't like the kits available. Also if I pieced it together it came out to be cheaper. Also don't jump into anything to quickly, do your research. I changed my mind about 8 different times when looking for a manifold. Nick
